Introduction

As we celebrate this years harvest. We must keep our minds upon a greater harvest which will come.

I. Two sowers

a) The Son of man-

The Lord Jesus Christ.
He sows the seed of the gospel through his servants and causes the seed to grow but the work of his Spirit.
He sows to bring people to eternal life. He sows peace and happiness.

b) The evil one-

the devil
He sows confusion. He blinds the minds of those who don’t believe 2 Cor 4:4.
He sows lies and deception
He does this to ruin people and destroy God’s good creation.

Application-

There are only two sowers. You are the fruit of either one. Which one?
If of Jesus- How good it is.
If of the evil one- How awful

II. Two seeds

a) The Sons of the Kingdom

Those who are saved and brought into God’s kingdom through faith in the finished work of Jesus.
Jesus has earned salavation- his life, death, resurrection
A person is made a child of the kingdom when they repent and believe.

b) The people of the evil one

These people are lost.
They are under the power and sway of satan, whether they know it or not.
They are rebels against God

Application-

There are only two seeds. Which one are you?
If you are a child of the Kingdom. How wonderful. What grace.
If you are not a child of the kingdom then it is clear from the words of Jesus you belong to the devil. You might not like to believe that because you think you’re a good person. But nevertheless it is true. You are under satan’s power and sway. A terrible place to be, of course you don’t feel it, that’s what the devil wants in order to keep you there.
You can become a child of the kingdom. Renounce your loyalty to satan by turning from your sin and believing in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

III. Two destinations

At the end of the age there will be a great harvest. A great gathering up.
There will be two piles. Two final destinations

a) The weeds-

everything that causes sin and all who do evil
Those who have not repented of their sin. They are living in rebellion against God. Does this describe you?
Their final destination is hell-
The fiery furnace- weeping and gnashing of teeth. Deep sorrow and anguish.

b) The Sons of the kingdom-

The righteous- Those who are righteous by faith in Jesus Christ. Those who are clothed in his righteousness.
They will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father-
They will shine -They will be glorified
When we see him we will be like him for we will see him as he is.
What is this kingdom like?

Application-

It doesn’t matter how far our culture wants to move away from these things, it is still true there is a heaven and a hell.
Those who are not sons of the kingdom will be put in hell for ever.
But it is also true that those who repent and believe and are forgiven by God they will be in the kingdom of their Father for ever.
