Jesus loves us. He calls us to love Him (John 14:21). Before we can love Him, He must make His home in us (John 14:23). Those who love the Lord are called to a life of obedience – keeping His ‘commandments’, keeping His ‘Word’ (John 14:21,23). As we walk with the Lord in love and obedience, ‘the Holy Spirit teaches us all things’ (John 14:26). He produces in us ‘the fruit of the Spirit … love, joy, peace…’ (Galatians 5:22-23). In our troubled world, there is so little love for Jesus and so little obedience to His Word. How are to keep on loving Jesus when we face so many temptations to turn back to the way of the world? Remember this: what the world offers us is nowhere near as good as what the Lord gives to us – “My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). This is just what we need to hear when we find it so hard to keep on walking with Jesus.
