We are brought to the end of Mark with the beginning of a new problem.

You can see the preservation of the Bible by the openness of those who have tirelessly worked to preserve the Word that we have been given.

Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticuys omito 16:9-20 and severl other early translation or version including the Old Latin, The Sinaitc SYriac manuscripts and about 100 Armenian manuscripts -
There we absent from the text
The Shorter Ending is the original
We are left with an emotional Ending of Shock just as the First witnesses of the Resurrection.
We should treat the longer ending as commentary of the gathered from the others Gospels, Acts, and Possibly Extra Biblical documents.
Mark Ended in 16:8 But his colleagues Finished the Book
Mark may have been interrupted finishing the book.
Persecution
The Martyrdom of Peter
Maybe compared this to other gospels and decided to include this as a necessary ending
Not Unheard of to have two authors or someone else finish the work-
Moses Deuteronomy But Chapter 34 Must have been added after his death.
Mark Wrote two editions; on with the Shorter Ending and Another with the Longer
May have written multiple copies of his manuscript. Maybe one shorter and one longer.
It is possible that the shorter edition wen to the South toward Alexandria, Egypt and the longer edition went North toward Byzantium- much of the land surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, including what is now Italy, Greece, and Turkey along with portions of North Africa and the Middle East..
The Longer is Edition is the Original
This could have been lost in some version because of the difficulty of keeping the manuscripts in tact. The wear and tear and then the copies happed without the last page or section intact.
This could be why it ends with FOR- Gar
The Ending introduces Mary Magdalene as if she wasn't mention at least 3 times before
The first Time Mark refers to Jesus as Lord Jesus or The Lord.
9 of the 34 words are new
in the Longer ending 18
and new word forms and syntactical construction s
Marks Signature stylistic features are likewise absent
The Ending uses a diffrent style and introduces new words that have not been used in the rest of Mark.
The Longer Ending is a patchwork of Resurrection Stories found in the other Gosples .
MARY MAGDELEN
John 20:18 “18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what he had said to her.”
He Appeared
Two Walking
Luke 24:13–35 “13 Now that same day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 Together they were discussing everything that had taken place. 15 And while they were discussing and arguing, Jesus himself came near and began to walk along with them. 16 But they were prevented from recognizing him. 17 Then he asked them, “What is this dispute that you’re having with each other as you are walking?” And they stopped walking and looked discouraged. 18 The one named Cleopas answered him, “Are you the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that happened there in these days?” 19 “What things?” he asked them. So they said to him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet powerful in action and speech before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him. 21 But we were hoping that he was the one who was about to redeem Israel. Besides …”
HANDLE SNAKES
Acts 28:3–6 “3 As Paul gathered a bundle of brushwood and put it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the local people saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man, no doubt, is a murderer. Even though he has escaped the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But he shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 They expected that he would begin to swell up or suddenly drop dead. After they waited a long time and saw nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.”
REBUKED THIER UNBELIFE
Luke 24:36 “36 As they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst. He said to them, “Peace to you!””
Matthew 28:9–10 “9 Just then Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They came up, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.””
GREAT COMMISSION
Acts 2:38 “38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
SPEAKING IN DIFFRENT LANGUGES
Acts 2:4 “4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them.”
Heal the Sick
Acts 5:16 “16 In addition, a multitude came together from the towns surrounding Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.”
Cast out Demons
Acts 16:18 “18 She did this for many days. Paul was greatly annoyed. Turning to the spirit, he said, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out right away.”
18. If they should drink anything deadly
Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), Mk 16:18.
Circa 1390-95 Tempera and gold on wood panel Pincoteca Vaticana, Rome
From a predella with scenes from the life of St. John the Evangelist. The pagan priest Aristodemus, perhaps the man on the far right, has offered to convert if John will drink a cup of poison and survive. To demonstrate the efficacy of the poison, the priest first administers it to two condemned prisoners. They die, but John drinks the poison without being harmed. Then Aristodemus, still doubting and despite his promise, challenges John to revive the two dead men. In the Golden Legend John hands his tunic to Aristodemus and tells him to place it over the dead men with the words "the apostle of Christ sends me to you that you may rise up in the name of Christ." In the painting it is a young servant who does this, but the effect is the same: The men arise, and the priest converts.
19 TAKEN UP INTO HEAVEN
Acts 1:9–11 “9 After he had said this, he was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 While he was going, they were gazing into heaven, and suddenly two men in white clothes stood by them. 11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up into heaven? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you have seen him going into heaven.””
