Sleep is essential.

One of the most important thing we can do for ourselves is get adequate amount of sleep. Now I admit this is not something I always do well, never had and trying to change that.

Reputations focus on the past.

This is not necessarily a bad thing and actually is most helpful. However, it can lead us to think we, or someone else, is different than what they really are.

These letters were given to all churches.

We must remember that not one letter was separate from the others.

Sardis was a powerful city.

The history of Sardis to some extent was a who’s who of world leaders. In fact one of the most incredible parts, to me at least, is they housed an cemetery/necropolis of some world leaders of the world before the time of Christ. At one time their comfort and security became the downfall.

Sardis—an active church in the past.

They had started in the past with good work but never finished it. They had the faith, the love, the desire and then at some point in time got content to just where they were. It wasn’t about growth. It wasn’t about poor doctrine. It was they got comfortable.

Sardis—Their strength was their weakness.

They had some social status, comfort without and within their community. They did not have the issues of other churches. They were stable and able to do the work of the Lord. In fact as we mentioned before they had done so in the past.

The call-Wake UP!!!

Though sleep is important we cannot stay in bed forever. Every morning I have to wake my kids up, sometimes it is easier, but they must get up. The same is true for us.

Starting strong is not as important as finishing strong.

How e finish is more important than how we start or when we start.

Jesus is coming!

The reason we must persevere is that Jesus is coming.

Jesus will acknowledge us!

To the one who finishes strong their name will never be erased from the Book of life. This is also a warning: if you fall asleep, you may miss it. He will say, “yes I know you!” What a thought.

Jesus was dead but now alive.

May this be true of us as well. By the grace of Jesus you can be truly alive today. Jesus may be asking you to get back to work, to lay down something in order to follow Him. Sin seeks to kill and destroy but Jesus seeks to set you free. How will you obey Jesus today? What is Jesus saying to you?
