John 6:66–69 KJV 1900
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

I .The loaves and fishes.

A. John 6, we find Jesus approached by a great company of people, hungry people.

John 6:5 KJV 1900
5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
John 6:8–9 KJV 1900
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

1. There were about 5 thousand men there that day.

a. Jesus had them sit down, He gave thanks, and served the people.

b. When all the men there had eaten until they were filled, they gathered up the fragments that were left over.

i. These fragments filled 12 baskets.

II. These men began to seek Jesus, because he had done this, to make Him king.

A. I am thankful that Jesus is able and willing to take care of our every need!

B. I am thankful that when I call His name He responds and takes care of me!

C. These people were so excited that He had filled their belly that they wanted to make Him king.

D. However, when they finally caught up with again. He began to teach them that we ought to labor, or work towards, the things that can last for eternity, and not for the things that are temporal!

1. You eat; you get hungry again.

2. You drink, you get thirsty again.

E. Jesus began to tell them, that He did not come to provide for their carnal needs, rather He came to give them eternal life!

John 6:26–27 KJV 1900
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

F. These people that day wanted to know what they should do to do the works of God.

John 6:28 KJV 1900
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

1. Jesus responded to them that it’s not the “works”, but it is about the “work” of God and that is simply this. Believe on Him who He(the Spirit) hath sent.

John 6:29 KJV 1900
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

2. These people asked for a sign, referencing back to the mana that God would send every morning to the Israelites in the wilderness!

John 6:30–31 KJV 1900
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

G. Jesus explained to them that it wasn’t Moses who provided the mana, but it was His Father that provided the bread!

1. We need to make sure that we truly understand the source of the blessing when it comes, because it wasn’t you or even the individual that may have been used to bless you, but it was God!

2. And Jesus said that the bread of God is HE which came down from heaven and gives life unto the world!

John 6:32–33 KJV 1900
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

H. After Jesus explained that the bread of God is He who giveth eternal life, the people asked for this bread!

John 6:34 KJV 1900
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

I. Jesus went on to tell them how to attain that work of God and take part of the everlasting life.

John 6:35 KJV 1900
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

J. The Father’s will is not only to provide for you physically, but most importantly he has already provided that everlasting life for you.

1. This is why He came to the earth!

2. He came that we could have everlasting life, and He is the only way to attain that eternal life!

John 6:44 KJV 1900
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

K. Jesus said you must believe on Him to be able to take part in this eternal life!

John 6:47–51 KJV 1900
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

1. In the next chapter Jesus said that we need to believe as the Scripture has said! Believing is the first step here today!

John 7:38 KJV 1900
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

2. What does the Scripture say?

John 3:3 KJV 1900
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:5–8 KJV 1900
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Luke 24:47–49 KJV 1900
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts 2:37–39 KJV 1900
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

III. To whom shall we go?

John 6:68–69 KJV 1900
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

A. We shall go to Jesus because in Him we find the hope of life!

John 14:6 KJV 1900
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

B. Let me remind you that nothing in the Kingdom of God happens by accident. Your life can be orchestrated by God if you will allow Him to take the pen and take over the book of your life!

1. There are many who have gone on before and their lives bear witness of the fact that He is faithful if you will put your trust in Him!

Hebrews 12:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

C. I am here this morning to ask you, “What will you do with your life?”

1. I implore you to choose TODAY!

Joshua 24:15 KJV 1900
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

2. I’m looking for a Ruth this morning that is willing to turn to God despite what anyone else is doing!

Ruth 1:15–16 KJV 1900
15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. 16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
