1 John 4_4-6 Unsinkable
1 John 4:4-6 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
ILLUSTRATION: The Titan Submersible… The Pressure got to them…Implosion
How many of you have heard of the Titan Submersible? After testing with dives to its maximum intended depth in 2018 and 2019, the original composite hull of Titan developed fatigue damage and was replaced by 2021.[4][5] In that year, OceanGate began transporting paying customers to the wreck of Titanic,[6][7] completing several dives to the wreck site in 2021 and 2022. During the submersible's first expedition in 2023, all five occupants were killed through implosion. OceanGate lost contact with Titan and contacted authorities later that day after the submersible was overdue for return. A massive international search and rescue operation ensued and ended on 22 June, when debris from Titan was discovered about 1,600 feet (500 metres) from the bow of Titanic.
The New Yorker - “The primary task of a submersible is to not implode. The second is to reach the surface, even if the pilot is unconscious, with oxygen to spare. The third is for the occupants to be able to open the hatch once they surface. The fourth is for the submersible to be easy to find, through redundant tracking and communications systems, in case rescue is required. Only the fifth task is what is ordinarily thought of as the primary one: to transport people into the dark, hostile deep.”
We know that this submersible imploded. “An investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard is ongoing; some debris from the wreckage has been salvaged, but the implosion was so violent and comprehensive that the precise cause of the disaster may never be known.” The New Yorker
13 dives out of 90 attempts to get the Titanic.
The Vessel Operator acted Foolhardy…
It didn’t make safety a primary concern.
The New Yorker “Most submersibles have duplicate control systems, running on separate batteries—that way, if one system fails, the other still works. But, during the refit, engineers at the University of Washington rigged the Cyclops I to run from a single PlayStation 3 controller. “Stockton is very interested in being able to quickly train pilots,” Dave Dyer, a principal engineer, said, in a video published by his laboratory. Another engineer referred to it as “a combination steering wheel and gas pedal.”
The Vessel Experienced Fatigue…
It wasn’t made of the right material to withstand the pressure it would face.
UB engineer Deborah Chung “Carbon fiber is widely used in the construction of pressure vessels with the fiber wound around the perimeter of the vessel. This design allows these vessels to withstand high pressure from the inside – but not necessarily from outside forces.” “Carbon fiber composites suffer from fatigue (stress that weakens the material) upon repeated use. This causes the fiber layers to separate from one another, a process called delamination. Extremely high outside pressure, such as what the Titan faced, tends to worsen delamination and, thus, hasten a catastrophic failure like the implosion.”
The Vessel Experienced Force….
It was an accident waiting to happen.”
Northeastern Global News, “In an explosion, the force acts outwards, but in an implosion the force acts inwards. When a submersible is deep in the ocean it experiences the force on its surface due to water pressure. When this force becomes larger than the force hull can withstand, the vessel implodes violently.”
WHAT DO YOU ALL KNOW ABOUT PRESSURE?
Young people face it too!
Everyday Pressures:
Mental illness, peer pressure, academic stress, uncertainty, parental pressure, technology…
Spiritual Pressures:
The pressure to maintain your Biblical word view.
The pressure to maintain your purity.
The pressure to keep your faith.
ILLUSTRATION: IT MATTERS WHAT YOU HAVE INSIDE OF YOU!
Pop cans empty and full… “Did you know that can is less than a tenth of a millimeter thick?”
“It holds liquid at up to 90 pounds per square inch.”
Ask question, “Do you think this can hold up my big ole self?” (Hold up a can) (Stand on one of the empties crushing it…)
Why not?
The pressure on the outside is not greater than what is pressing on the inside!
THREE TRUTHS TO KEEP YOU FROM IMPLOSION:
i. Your Place.
(v.4 “Ye are of God, little Children…”)
a. Implanted
b. No matter how much the pressure from the outside is…REMEMBER THIS TRUTH!
i. If you are saved…YOU ARE OF GOD!
ii. Your Prevailing.
(v. 4 “and have overcome them…”)
a. Impact.
b. Ref. The Blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.
iii. Your Power.
(v. 4 “…because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world…”)
a. Empowered.
b. John is writing about the dangers that are involved in living the Christian life.
c. Thank God that we have the Holy Ghost!
d. John 14:15-17 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
You don’t have to succumb to the pressures of this world!
IF you are where God has placed you, you will have an impact on those around you!
You WILL be empowered to accomplish what God has called you too!
