Abandon
Dying to self so that others may live
John 12:25: 25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.[1]

• We Value Transformation

– Transformation is a change from a contrary condition of human existence to God’s purposes to one in which people are able to enjoy fullness of life in harmony with God. Every activity will be regarded as an opportunity to touch people in love, to speak relevant words of truth pointing them to God and to experience the supernatural intervention of the Holy Spirit.

• We Value Community

– We will integrate our lives with neighbors and indigenous believers. A logical outgrowth of commitment to local language, to learning culture and to lifestyle evangelism is living where we minister.

• We Value Sacrifice

– We recognize that the people groups that remain unreached face hostile spiritual and physical contexts of living. We commit ourselves to pay whatever price is necessary to reach them with the gospel.

• We Value Accountability

– Authority is given by God and essential to who we are. We will respect, honor and obey our authorities, considering them God’s means of protection, counsel and covering.

Abandon is to die to self.

Two Greek words used for life in John 12:25
- Psyche used in first two instances, idea of who you are, soul, personality
- Zoe – to be alive, to live, life

We must abandon our way of being and be transformed to align with God’s purposes.

We must abandon our ideas of individuality and live as a community.

We must abandon our rights and put ourselves under authority, held accountable.

We must be willing to sacrifice, paying any price to follow Jesus, knowing him and making him known.
