Ready for War
There is a time as one is stepping into the promise in which we are made aware of the battle within the promise in each instance we may be tempted with taking the easy way out or walking away all together.
There are giants in that land… that is there are things we will need to overcome to actually posses the promise the Lord has spoken over each of us.
No mater how much a Soldier prepares for war there is a stillness that falls over them before battle in which they embrace their training, make an effort to remove distractions, and focus on the mission at hand. This stillness is made worse by the thought of “Am I ready? How will I react?” what remains is knowing I cannot engage properly unless I let go of “Home, wife, children, friend, family, bills...” There is no time to think about “I forgot to pay my bills… So and so is mad at me… I forgot to shower… Win so I can go home.
Stepping into the promise realizing there is a battle ahead the last thing you want to be is passive so we prepare, set the house in order, and lean into the Lord… crossing that wide river its not just ok now give me… it is as the David declared
“Blessed be the Lord my Rock who trains my hands for war and my finger for battle.” This is the heart of one is intent on stepping into the promise.

To receive the promise we must prepare for the warfare ahead of us.

Joshua 4:11–13 ESV
And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the Lord and the priests passed over before the people. The sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh passed over armed before the people of Israel, as Moses had told them. About 40,000 ready for war passed over before the Lord for battle, to the plains of Jericho.
The walk across the river Jordan was one thing now imagine doing so knowing about the impending war
how many of us give in at the hearing of war
how many of us surrender the promise hearing of the giants we are about to face?
Presence Priests Warriors
indicate the level of warfare
not just a physical war but a spiritual one
Entrenched in the open
it feels like the promise
You’re not there yet listen to the sound as the battle plans are now being released
Sit in the stillness before the battle, ready the affairs, prepare for battle there are giants in the land you will have to overcome

Clean the House and Make Time to Heal

Joshua 5:8–9 ESV
When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they remained in their places in the camp until they were healed. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.
Along the way the nation of Israel having been circumcised had picked things of this world. “The ways of Egypt”
what did we pick up? what traditions? what religious platitudes?
They receive a physical circumcision we have received a spiritual one
the old cannot inherit the promise we must do away with the past cannot carry the traditions remember “you’ve never been here before”
Make time to heal...
cutting out the old we make time to heal wounds
The things you carry that hurt you as you let go will need to be healed.
The Lord removes the shame and guilt

Partake of the Promise

Joshua 5:11–12 ESV
And the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
Not a punishment it was a step into maturity
Getting spoiled in our young christianity and having to grow into the fullness we learn to partake of what is found in the promise.
Wishing for the Lord to outright tell you what to do
I need genie God to show me instead of pressing into the work ahead
Walk by faith and not by sight… (2 Cor 5)
for the Israelites the manna had to cease…
for the Christian the Holy Spirit was poured out into us that we may do all the things Christ did (John 14)

Wait on the Lord and Surrender

Joshua 5:13–15 ESV
When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” And the commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
How ready was Joshua that he sees this being and is not afraid but simply goes to see who this is and what He is doing. (what would he have done if He said against you?)
The commander of the armies of the Lord
Pre-Incarnate Jesus Christ
Now I have come
Fall on your face and worship Jesus…
Take off your sandals
complete surrender
Turn over your past, present, and future o the Lord
There is a battle ahead for us as we step into the promise, we need to clean out the things the Lord does not want us to carry into the promise, we need to heal from that which hurt us so bad along the way;
Prepare to see what no one could understand; The Lord is making right that which was distorted
It is not just the overt signs and wonders though we surely will see those, but that cannot be what we depend on we need to follow the Lord who makes the signs and wonders and not fall in love with the signs.
More than anything before stepping into the battle we must wait on the Lord… The commander of the Lord’s armies stands poised to conquer the enemy but we must surrender our past to Him, our present to Him, and our Future to Him if we want to be partakers in His victory.
