Who is Melchizedek

It in Hebrews 5 that the writer of Hebrews gives us two offices that Christ holds, remind you Christ holds three; prophet, priest, and King.
The writer of Hebrews is drawing out two offices in this passage, Christ as King and Priest. He will point out that Christ is the fulfillment of the Psalmist Prophecy of Psalm 110:4
Psalm 110:4 ESV
The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”
The Jews were looking for the High priest and King, to be the Messiah. In order to build this case the writer of Hebrews is lays out the foundation that Christ is from the order of Melchizedek.
We see Melchizedek in Genesis 14:17–24 “After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything. And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself.” But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted my hand to the Lord, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth, that I would not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share.””

So Who is Melchizedek?

This questions is unknown, as Melchizedek does not appear but in three books of scripture, Genesis, Psalms, and Hebrews.
Yet what we don’t know actually tells us more about whom we know and that is Jesus who is High Priest from the order of Melchizedek.
Melchizedek is royalty and eternal at least the order of Melchizedek is according to Psalm 110.
Melchizedek is greater than Aaron and Abraham which is seen in Hebrews 7. That
Melchizedek Priest hood is far greater than the Levictial priesthood, while one is appointed for the house of mosses’ this order of Melchizedek is the House of Jesus. Yo

The role of a Priest

The role of Priest would speak on behalf of the people of God, provide blessings from God to the people, and once a year offer atonement of the people to God.
Priest were not Kings, other than Melchizedek. Note Melchizedek does not serve under the House of Mosses, he is not a levitical priest was temporary and could not fulfill the law.
The priesthood of Melchizedek until this chapter remained quiet as to the order and operation of it. What we do know is this priest belongs to Jesus as given by the father, affirmed at the Resurrection.
This leaves us now having to explore the practical of Jesus as our High Priest.

Jesus the High Priest

I don’t want to dwell on Melchizedek, rather this was Christ in the Old Testament or a shadow is beyond scriptures answer, and therefore must draw our attention to Christ.
How does Christ serve as Priest?
Priest were known and they knew their people. Christ created and saved His people
Priest offered sacrfices for the promise of atonement, Christ makes us clean because he is the atonement
Priest speak the word of God to the People; Christ is the Word of God

Do Not Fall into Apostasy

If Christ be your atonement, look to Him.
If Christ be your King, trust Him
If Christ be your salvation, walk with Him
Apostasy begins when the following is happening
You neglect to keep your eyes on Christ
Your trusting the world rather than Christ as King in your life
You begin to falter in prayer life, reading of the word, and fellowship of believers
While you will not loose your salvation, because if you are saved your salvation is kept in the Lord, but the life of spirtual nurtishment can dwindle. It becomes like a campfire that was keeping you warm to a dwindling coal that needs the breath of life again.

Application

You are known by God and forgiven
Prayer is directly to God because of Christ; so approach the throne with boldness
You have access to the very of God today, treasure this access. Dive into the word of God daily
