Becoming Spiritualy Fit

Introduction
1 Timothy 4:7–8 ESV
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
We all understand that in ordered to be physically “fit”, time and training are involved. We do this for physical and emotional reasons.
The same holds true for anyone who TRULY seeks to become spiritually fit.
Becoming spiritually fit goes beyond religious practices; it involves aligning our character and actions with God's Word.
In today's fast-paced world, where distractions and temptations abound, it is even more crucial for us to prioritize spiritual fitness.
Today we’ll look at 3 things you MUST do to reach this goal
Do NOT Separate Your Devotion to Jesus From Scripture
Recognizing Irreverent, Silly Myths

DO NOT SEPARATE YOUR DEVOTION TO JESUS AND FROM SCRIPTURE

Many who proclaim to be a Christian have separated their devotion to Jesus from their devotion to scripture.
They reject the authority of the Bible and follow a Jesus as they imagine him to be.
This approach is out of accord with authentic Christianity
The unbreakable connection between Jesus as Lord and learning more about him in scripture is at the heart of true, authentic Christianity
Here are several dangers when you deviate from the Jesus in the Bible.

The Danger of Moral Relativism

Following an imagined Jesus may lead to a subjective interpretation of his teachings, resulting in moral relativism.
John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Departing from the true Jesus revealed in Scripture can lead to creating your own truth and morality, and not the exclusivity of salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

The Danger of Idolatry

Exodus 20:3–4 ESV
“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Many who profess to be Christian will say that don’t do this.
We see this in our idolized “hook-up” society of having multiple partners
You are reconditioning your mind, changing your brain chemistry, and imprinting this behaviour in your mind.
This can be said for any kind of addiction
This behavior has to be unlearned - and it will be difficult.
Building our faith on an imaginary Jesus can lead to worshiping a false representation of him

The Danger of Not Taking Personal Responsibility

God recreated us to have free-will to make decisions
Not taking personal responsibility for your spiritual fitness will lead to a stagnation of growth
You live in the “nothing is your fault” society.
Divorce stats are low for the christian couple who are dedicated, committed to God’s Word and are convicted by it!
Galatians 6:7–8 ESV
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

RECOGNIZING IRREVERENT, SILLY MYTHS

Something that is irreverent is of little to know importance
From a Christian perspective, recognizing irreverent and silly myths can be done by comparing them with the teachings of the Bible.
Colossians 2:8 ESV
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
2 Timothy 4:3–4 ESV
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
By comparing questionable ideas or myths with these scriptural principles, Christians can effectively discern which ones are irreverent, silly, and contrary to the teachings of the Bible.
It is important to remember that seeking guidance from spiritual leaders and relying on prayerful discernment are also essential in this process.
