Isaiah 39 LSB
At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that he had been sick and was growing stronger. And Hezekiah was glad about these things and showed them all his treasure house, the silver and the gold and the spices and the good oil and his whole armory and all that was found in his treasuries. There was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them. Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where have they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come to me from a far country, from Babylon.” And he said, “What have they seen in your house?” So Hezekiah said, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasuries that I have not shown them.” Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of Yahweh of hosts, ‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house and all that your fathers have treasured up to this day will be carried to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says Yahweh. ‘And some of your sons who will issue from you, whom you will beget, will be taken away, and they will become officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.’” Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of Yahweh which you have spoken is good.” For he said, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.”

Pride comes from Achievement

It has been said that “the sunshine of prosperity is a greater danger than the storms of adversity.”

George Rawlinson claims, “We can bear the world’s frowns, the buffets of fortunes, the cruelty of oppressors, the open attacks of rivals and enemies; we can resist them, defy them, and still maintain our integrity; but let the world smile, let fortune favor us, let riches increase, let friends spring up on all sides, and how few of us can stand the sunshine. How few of us but drop the habits of prayer, of communing with God, of constant reliance upon him, which were familiar to us in the darker time.”

The age of Gentiles comes to an end by the massive amounts of “achievements” that have been made; think of all the medical, technological and industrial advancements, the Great Society, and the climate change agenda, all in the name of revolutions and achievements. All man-made concepts to rid the world of the consequences of sin and transgressions.

Hezekiah becomes a king of great achievement; in doing so, he leads the nation of Israel to lose their faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel.

Pride comes from Attention

The Gentiles rose and gained great attention among the world. The rise of Christendom, the Catholic Church, the Nation of Islam, Protestants, Enlightenment, Spiritualism, Mormonism, Evangelism, Modernism, and Post-modernism. Each stage brought a form of Gentile attention. Each Gentile country brought with it’s own ingredient to the “age of the Gentiles.”

Hezekiah also receives great attention from the Gentile globe. The astrologers, astronomers, and diviners of the Babylon realize the Sun went backwards, that Hezekiah had been healed, and Babylon sent “messengers” with gifts. The victory over Assyria the “global leader” of that day, also brought attention and honor. A time before, Hezekiah is the despised king, an unpopular king, found on knees praying, weeping, and offering his sacrifice to the God of Isaiah. Now, Hezekiah is a distinguished king, popular king, found showing off his health, wealth, and prosperity.

Pride comes from Affluence

“Money makes people funny.” “More money, more problems.” “Show me the money.” “Follow the money” “For the love of money is the root of all evil.”

The Gentile nations would become rich through the looting, robbing, and stealing of the Temple treasures. The problem seems that most forgot that the Temple was and is Yahweh’s. With the looting of the Temple by Babylon, the Temple treasure has simply been passed through the hands of each nation when conquered. Listen to how Hezekiah became rich, and how Yahweh brought treasure into the Temple.

2 Chronicles 32:22–29 (LSB)
So Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and He guided them on every side.
And many were bringing presents to Yahweh at Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was lifted up in the sight of all nations thereafter.
In those days Hezekiah became sick to the point of death; and he prayed to Yahweh, and Yahweh spoke to him and gave him a miraculous sign.
But Hezekiah gave no return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.
However, Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahweh did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
Now Hezekiah had abundant riches and honor; and he made for himself treasuries for silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of desirable articles,
storehouses also for the produce of grain, wine, and oil, stalls for all kinds of cattle, and sheepfolds for the flocks.
He also made cities for himself and acquired flocks and herds in abundance, for God had given him exceedingly abundant wealth.

Pride comes from Abandonment

“Pride never takes much caution. It is too busy showing off to take caution. It has its head too tipped up in self-esteem to notice any perils on the path of life.” - John Butler

Hezekiah was an obedient king, but towards the end of his life he becomes a faithless king. Obedience is complying to an order or a command, while faith is confidence in a person or a thing. Yahweh leaves Hezekiah and He divorces Israel. As Hezekiah abandons God, God abandons Hezekiah. This is contrary to much of the belief of our post-modern and evangelical concept. This abandonment simply means that God lets Hezekiah and Israel to their “own” devices and deficiencies. These devices and deficiencies “should” lead to repentance, remorse, and restoration, but often lead to rebellion, revolution, and revenge. Abandoning faith in God will be replaced with faith in self (Pride).

Conclusion

There is one irrefutable absolute truth and that is death. Death is the separation from.....
