Impact of Our Thoughts
The Process of Renewing Our Minds

1. The Battle For Our Minds

2 Corinthians 10:4–5 ESV
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
What are some of the arguments that need to be destroyed?
I’m too old to change
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks
This is how God made me
I’m just keeping it real
It’s in my DNA
And many times the consequences of our deeds are not immediately realized
Ecclesiastes 8:11 ESV
Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.
Ecclesiastes 8:12 ESV
Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I know that it will be well with those who fear God, because they fear before him.
Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
It is dangerous as a child of God to
Go with the flow
Capitulate to fit in to avoid persecution

2. Impact of Our Thoughts

Proverbs 23:7 ESV
for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.
Our thoughts shape our attitudes, choices, and actions
Your thoughts shape your actions.
Actions shape your habits.
Habits shape your character.
Character determines your destination.
Our thoughts are not hidden from God
Psalm 139:2 ESV
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.

3. The Process of Renewing Our Minds

Surrender to God’s Will

Romans 12:2 ESV
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Align your thoughts with God's truth.
Study and meditate on Scripture
Make God's Word the foundation of you thought life.

Practice Mindfulness and Accountability

Philippians 4:8 ESV
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Cultivate Lifestyle of Prayer

Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
