Comfort and Complacency are enemies of progress and growth. The idea that good enough is good enough is sure way to keep from moving forward. Midnight Star said it like this “Dont rock that boat baby.” And, I get it. I do. Somethings just are fine the way the are and some things work the way they are supposed to and when it does there is no need to you can leave it alone. But, when it comes to your faith journey. When it comes to building a better life and a lasting legacy. When it comes to glorifying God. We should be seeking better, and and you do not have better without having new. Because if you, in faith, desire greater for yourself, greater, for your family, greater for your church, it means you are going to have to embrace change and become familiar with “newness”. And, let me be specific here. I am talking about what is new and is a blessing from God.

You’ll Ruin what is “new trying to Repair what is Broken.

When it comes to new blessings and possibilities you can not receive them if you are constantly trying to fix or salvage what is broken. This is what the Pharisees and John’s disciples didn’t understand. Some things are not salvageable. Sometimes church, we need to let the things that are broken remain as such and disregard completely or at the very least serve as a reminder. God can fix it yes, we love to say, “fix it Jesus” and it is a great testimony when He does. But, do not let God’s repairing power keep you from God’s replacement plan.
Whenever you by a new appliance they offer you a warranty that serves as written guarantee that if you product fails they will either fix it or replace it. Also, if you have great car insurance and you total your car it can have it repaired or replaced.
(Exegete v. 36)
Jesus didn’t come to patch up the old laws and regulations of Moses, he came to fulfill them and close the requirements of them. Because if you try and mix grace which is what Jesus brings and the law what the Jews were used to, you ruin grace and break the law at the same time. You can not have both grace and the law at the same time. (Run) Ultimately you are going to have to make a decision are you going to ruin your blessing or will you receive in fullness what new thing God is preparing for you.

You’ll Waste what’s New if you Contain it in what’s Old.

Jesus was doing something radially different from what they were used too. He was healing people at will, preaching challenging messages of love and hope and freedom, and it bothered the traditions of the Jews. Its not that Jesus was preaching, but he wasn’t preaching in the manner of the Pharisees. It wasn’t that Jesus could heal, it was that he healed on the Sabbath. It wasn’t that Jesus sinless, but it was that the convicted the Pharisees of their sin. It wasn’t that Jesus utilized scripture, it was that he didn’t interpret it the way the scribes did. If Jesus had played by the traditional rules he wouldn’t have been crucified, but because he did things in way that was uncomfortable for the establishment they crucified the Lord of Glory.
This was MLK’s lot. They were OK with him dealing with Civil Rights but when he turned his attention and left the expected role and came for the money they killed him. The was the lot of Malcom X, as long as he was quoting Elijah Muhammad they were OK, but as soon as he called Elijah out on his multiple affairs they killed him.
And as long as you identify with the world it wont be an offence to anyone. What has happened to you on the inside when you received Jesus must be obvious on the outside too.
(Exegete v.38)

Don’t miss what is Great being stuck on Good.

I know we have all used at some point, the expression “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. And there is some truth to it. But it becomes a problem when it becomes a matter of sacrificing something better because it works fine. And it is very problematic when it is broken but you can’t let it go because it has certain level of efficiency. Jesus says, “quote v. 39” this is not mentioned in the other gospel accounts, only Luke gives us this. When I read it i thought that the meaning had to do with the quality of old wine opposed to the quality of new. But that was not the case. because storage conditions were not the same old wine wasn’t the same as aged wined.
