Intro
We have looked at the last few weeks this topic of fear. We began by looking at the need for the Word and the Holy Spirit Guidance. Then we looked the need to not sweat the small the stuff and to not give our energies to worry about things that we cannot change.
This morning we will be discussing conquering the power of fear and the big thing
A spirit of Fear is the Problem
A spirit of Fear is the Problem
And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had bronze armor on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him.
Goliath showed up what was it that Israel noticed?
9 Ft Tall
His helmet was awesome
his Armor was thick and well made
He carried a very dangerous 13ft spear.
Israel noted every reason they would die.
Goliath was stronger, faster and better protected then they were. With that 13ft spear they probably wouldn;t get anywhere near him.
When they breathed in all of that show, a spirit of fear spread over the entire army. From Saul to the lowliest soldier fear reigned.
Because they walked in a spirit of fear they were unable to see the vulnerability of Goliath. They couldn’t breath or think. All they saw was death and slavery.

He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.” And the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.” When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.
you see All Israel saw was Goliath. But this battle was between Goliath and Israel. Like every battle, it is between, God and the enemy.
Israel was terrified, and no one would fight Goliath.
Why didn’t the Philistines and Goliath just destroy Israel?
Because God wouldn’t give Satan permission. Goliath didn’t even attack Israel. He merely walked out every day and began to mock God and his people.
You see, if you could pull back the veil and look at this situation through the eyes of God, you would and broken man in Goliath, filled not strength, but filled with pain, fear, and pride.
You would not just Goliath, but demonic forces filling him, strengthening him to rail against the almighty. At the core it was Satan screaming at God.
“I defy You!” I defy your king!” I defy, Your army!”
As the demons screamed this through Goliath, a legion of demons ran through Israel, whispering, “your gonna die!” It’s over!” “No one can defeat, him!”
Saul believed them.
the Army believed them.
Everyone believed the demonic word, “Fear! You have Lost!”
this is exactly what strikes fear so deeply within us:
A loss of hope
A inability to see the other side of a situation.
It clouds our minds and annihilates our faith. paralyzing us in the process. We see the army, hear the demonic cry, and freeze. Just like Saul and his army we bury our heads and just pray the enemy would leave.
But my friends, ignoring Goliath, doesn’t defeat Goliath. To defeat the Giants in your life, must strike at the heart of their strength. The terror. The Spirit of fear! you demolish this, and faith can begin to rise. Once you strike fear down, you will be able to step out in faith and slay the giant.
You see Israel was given over to fear, the army was resigned to this humiliating stalemate.
God looks out over the congregation and cries
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
Will anyone stand up to this Giant? The lord look and finds a boy in Bethlehem. This young man will stand up for Us. So God begins to move and a few days later David shows up on site, not armed with weapons, but with lunch.
He begins asking questions about the situation?
He’s be defying God for how many days?
The one that kills gets the kings daughter?
But Davids brother heard David and screamed at him.
Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
You can hear the humiliation in Eliabs voice. Because he was terrified, but wanted to pretend to be strong. But Davids prescence convicted him.
David Responds
And David said, “What have I done now? Was it not but a word?”
Why are you screaming at me? I’m only asking questions.
What was going on is that the Holy Spirit was using David to convict Israel of their cowardice.
Well David ended up up in front of Saul,
And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
No one has to fear. I will do it.
Saul replied: “your kidding me, You’re just a boy. No military training. Goliath has been a warrior from his childhood. You don’t have a shot.
Oh No Saul. God delivered me from a Lion, and from a bear. He will deliver me from this uncircumcised philistine. you have nothing to fear. Jehovah is on my side.
The Holy Spirit must have spoken to Saul, because he let David go.

Then Saul clothed David with his armor. He put a helmet of bronze on his head and clothed him with a coat of mail, and David strapped his sword over his armor. And he tried in vain to go, for he had not tested them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” So David put them off.
Gods call
Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.
The Pride of the Giants
And the Philistine moved forward and came near to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him. And when the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance. And the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
I curse you. I curse your God. Come to me and die.
This battle you face is yours to win. It God’s.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
Casting the Stone of Faith
When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.
