INTRO:
Last week we discussed the Soil Types
In the Parable of the Sower all the seed was the same but the outcomes were drastically different due to the soil. The soil must be right to produce a fruitful outcome with the seed.
This week are going to discuss the Seed Types
Poison Ivy on my hand from pulling weeds

I want to talk about a specific seed type this morning. BAD SEED
Wheat or Weeds (Bad or Good)
Matthew 13:24–30 NLT
24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. 26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew. 27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’ 28 “ ‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed. “ ‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked. 29 “ ‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’ ”

BAD SEED

It could be your past (upbringing, alcohol, drugs, friends)
It could be lies that you have believed for years (abuse, controlling spouse or the devil)
It could doubts about God (some can’t imagine a good Father, A God that loves them)
Bad Seed Comes Naturally
You know the bad seed you deal with

Seeds of Destruction

Galatians 6:7–8 (NLT)
7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
There is plasticity from cradle to grave.
You can change
Your brain can adapt and be rewired
There have been children born without the left side of their brain which you would think they will never talk and have tube in their body their whole life. But they are talking, voting, rooting on their favorite basketball team.
They are finding in some cases that is a direct correlation with disease and thoughts and fears.
Old Dogs Can’t Learn New Tricks
If you don’t challenge your brain it wont maintain itself. It requires intensive work, like your physical body.

MICHAEL H. MOSKOWITZ M.D., M.P.H. pain doctor who had a ski accident and tried everything for relief to no avail. It led him down a new road of treatments and study. He then began teaching on Neuroplasticity and its role in the treatment of patients living with persistent pain
When he experienced pain he would visual something good preventing the brain from being hyjacked by the emotional aspects of pain.
We need to look at alternatives
Job 3:25 NLT
What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true.

Seeds of Doubt (Fear)

ILLUSTRATION:
If a bully at school is calling my kids names and they come home broken hearted and tell me what they are being called. Who should they believe? The bully? Or their parent?
I think God often feels hurt because we often times choose to believe the bullies report more than we believe the report or opinion of the LORD.
Belief systems that hold you back hardwire in your brain.
You can hard wire your brain to doubt, fear, overcome
They were believing the wrong report
Matthew 9:9–13 NLT
9 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. 10 Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. 11 But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum?” 12 When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” 13 Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
It is not others belief in you that brings the harvest.
It’s not others faith that brings Salvation, It’s my faith in God
We must believe what God has said, and how God has led
James 1:6 NLT
6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

Seeds of Temptation

James 1:14–15 NLT
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

Seeds of Security (Complacency)

a. Introvert
Withdraws from talking to others, yet feels lonely
Proverbs 18:24 NKJV
24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
b. Insecure
Operates out of fear of failure
Believes their success or failure depends solely upon themselves;
1 Corinthians 3:6–7 (NLT)
6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.
7 It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.
Matthew 25:20–30 (NLT)
20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate.
25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate,
27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver.
29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Imitation vs Authentic
Intentional vs Complacent
David Platt’s book “Radical”
It should not be a Christian’s goal to arrive safely to death.
CONCLUSION:
We know we must be good soil
We must be planted not just buried
We must be get rid of the bad seed
Bad seed is learned behavior, old habits and hangups in our lives
We must surround ourselves with new friends, new voices, new influencers, new thoughts, new beliefs if we want to be planted and not just buried.

GOOD SEED

You bury the dead
But you plant to receive a harvest of life.
Are you planted or buried?
There is a big difference between being buried and being planted.
Similar proximity but different purpose.
It may dark, it may be cold, it may require struggle to break out of the seed and become rooted, but in the end it is worth it.
Seedtime and Harvest Post Flood
Genesis 8:22 NLT
22 As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”
PLANTING or SEEDTIME — the time for planting seeds. In Palestine or the region of Israel - grain crops were sown in late October or November. The seed for summer produce, such as beans, cucumbers, and melons, were sown between January and March.
Genesis 8:22 gives 3 functions God has set up in the ordered universe: agriculture, weather, and time.
Three things stand as the foundational functions of creation after the Flood:
1. Agriculture - As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest
a. AGRI - is extracted from agriculture, meaning the science, art, or occupation concerned with cultivating land and raising livestock, Ultimately form Latin ager, meaning field.
b. CULT - group of people with a religious connotation that are not orthodox or they are ordinary or normal; the latin root is cultus refinement, to till
c. The living thing is not normal or natural to the ground that it is in. It had to be planted and refined.
2. Weather - cold and heat, summer and winter
Matthew 5:45 NLT
45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.
2 Corinthians 4:7–11 NLT
7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9 We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10 Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. 11 Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies.
Proverbs 10:25 NLT
25 When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.
3. Time - day and night will never cease.
Ecclesiastes 1:4 NKJV
4 One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever.
a. For more than 60 years they have been warning about climate change wiping out our existence if not addressed.
b. This world will be here until God is done with it.
c. He is a lot smarter than human scientists.
Each of the 3 functions has a specific purpose!
As good as America is…Planting is still not pleasant!
Psalm 126:6 NLT
6 They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.
Acute pain is necessary. Those who don’t feel pain die young because they can’t identify infections or injuries and it often leads to early death.

Story of the Seed in Africa
John 12:24 NLT
24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.
A kernel of wheat is a dead, dry looking seed,
but when it’s planted in the ground it bears forth into a plant and produces more seeds, endless opportunity.
As a matter of fact the multiplication we see in just one seed has the potential to cover the entire earth.
That’s powerful, because we are that seed.
Are you dead to yourself and open to God?

Seeds of Faith

Matthew 17:20 NLT
20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
Seeds of Faith are something u possess.
1 Corinthians 3:4–9 NLT
4 When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world? 5 After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. 6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 7 It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. 9 For we are both God’s workers. And you are God’s field. You are God’s building.

SEEDS OF INTENTION

Are you buried or planted?
Big difference, same location but a different purpose.
ILLUSTRATION:
Pile of dirt where i used to shoot, I graded it out but didn’t seed it, it grew up green and looked good, but it’s already brown and dormant while the grass is still green.
Imitation vs Authentic
Intentional vs Complacent
Seed faith is sowing something i have for something i don’t have.
There will never be a day in your life you have nothing.
Widow oil Elijah took something and multiplied it
Seasons can determine the type of Seed you need to sow
Farmers plant specific seeds for a specific result
Winter Wheat
Corn or Beans
Geographical Location can also determine the type of seed you need to sow.
Sowing my seed for a desired assignment.
Your Seed can be nothing... but your harvest will lead to nothing
Matthew 13:37 NLT
37 Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed.
John 8:39–45 NLT
39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. 40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. 41 No, you are imitating your real father.” They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.” 42 Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! 44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me!

Seeds of Investment

CONCLUSION:
The seed leaves your hand but not your life, God will look over the seed to produce a harvest for your life
