Brief Recap of last couple weeks
Live Worthy of the Gospel (27)
Be Humble (2:1-10) Christ example
Don’t be a grumbler or complainer (2:12-18)
Today Be Ready and Willing
-Ready and Willingness to Serve
-(Spiritual Maturity----Does not equate to BOOK KNOWLEDGE but KNOWING)
We are going to look at Timothy and Epaphroditus
2 men sent out by Paul
Timothy was Paul’s Understudy, Young guy but Heart set on Jesus and the Gospel
Epaphroditus was the messenger from Phillipi bringing news to Paul on the church
We are going to take a look at Timothy First Phillippians 2
I. 2:19-21
Philippians 2:19–21 NIV
I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
A) (V20) No one else Like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.
LOVE PEOPLE
1 John 2:10 NIV
Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
B) (21) For Everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
(This section may seem randomly inserted, but I don’t think it is. I think Paul is illustrating what he opened the letter with in Action.)
Paul is talking about Timothy and how He lives out what Paul just wrote out in 2:3-5
Read Philippians 2:3-5
Philippians 2:3–5 NIV
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Be humble putting others needs before your own.
( do not think of yourself higher than you ought.)
Romans 12:3 NIV
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
B) (V22-24)
Philippians 2:22–24 NIV
But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
Timothy has proved himself
(Timothy is young but Paul is saying he has been living a life worthy of the Gospel) (1:27)
Book Knowledge does not Equate spiritual Maturity
You can be mature and not KNOW as much.
Maturity is relational- A relationship with God, Not a subject to know in school.
Pharisees KNEW A LOT but missed key component -Relationship.
Candy Bars
I can tell you everything about the ice cream, where it is from how is was made
the ingredients but never had ice cream
no matter how much i know it doesn’t mean you have had it.
However you can eat ice cream and experienced but maybe never knew how it is made or the ingredients. etc.
Now we don’t have to Know everything to share. I don’t need to know the ingredients to tell you this ice cream is amazing, but over time i should know its components etc.
*We should still grow in knowledge
Simple :Walk with Jesus and Live it out
Love God and Love People
III. (V25)
Philippians 2:25 NIV
But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.
A) Brother, Co-worker, fellow soldier
Beautiful picture of believers relationship
One - Family Thick and thin
Co-worker and fellow soldier- Getting in the trenches with you
Ministry and life can be tough and messy , our battle is not against flesh and blood.
Police Story- when you are in the thick of it you are bonded and close. Those guys became like brothers to me here, but this is even deeper than that, this is a brotherhood for eternity.
IV. (26-30)
Philippians 2:26–30 NIV
For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.
A) following Christ can cost much or all

Be Willing and Ready
(Not Get READy)
God will use you, you walk with him and God will do the work. Cleaning you and using you, just surrender to him.
We think in order to be used by God we need certain things more, I want to learn before I share, I need more in order to do that.
God will do big things with a willing and obedient heart.
For instance:
John 6:1–14 NIV
Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!” Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
What is impossible for man is possible with God.
He wants your availabilty not your ABILITY.
LASTLY BE READY If you are willing God will open doors to be used.
Often times meaning we will leave our comfort zone. (We can’t grow in our comfort zone. Muscles grow from breaking down and rebuilding, not comfort)
He will do the work, you just need to be willing and ready.
Just start be doing something. sharing at work, school, grocery store, serving in some capacity.
God doesn’t want to move a parked car, start serving and he will direct you.
