And Behold

When the Bible says behold it means
Hey! listen up I’ve got something to say
V 41 And behold...
Jesus again is going to do the impossible
we have already seen him calm the impossible deadly storm
He has driven out the demons from the uncontrollable man
we are going to look at 2 more people today
one is a 12 year old and dying
when he father comes to Jesus she is at the point of death
one is a woman who has had a bleeding issue for 12 years
she has used up all of her life savings on doctors
the insurance company has revoked her policy
all that the doctors seem to be able to do is relieve her of the burden of having to carry around money
And Behold
we are going to look deeper into these 3 people and see Faith healing death and resurrection
read Luke 8 41-56.

Jairus

V 41-42 a leader in the Synagogue
a well respected man in town
as a man who associates with the pharisees and scribes is a hater of Jesus
this man is probably righteous in his own eyes
he does his best to follow all of the rules
he might even think that God owes him
because of all of the good things that he has done
But something has changed
there has come up something that his status and position can do nothing for him
His daughter is deafly ill
the love of his life, his precious little sweetheart is dying
he realizes he needs Jesus
there is no other way
he realizes he is a destitute beggar
so he runs to Jesus falls on his face and begs Jesus to save his daughter
come to my house and save her

The Woman

She is unclean
V 43-44
she has a bleeding issue that does not go away
she cannot worship in the temple
she cannot be around other people
everything and everyone she touches becomes unclean
becomes defiled
she has lost all hope of a normal life
she is alone in her sorrow
but she knows about Jesus
knows that He heals
she believes that he can heal
she believes in Jesus
but what she believes is worthless
it cannot heal her body
she needs to put that faith into action
she needs to humble herself
go to Jesus and touch His garment
She was healed instantly
But Jesus talks with her
V 45
Jesus asks
Peter the crowd
the crowd is inadvertently touching Jesus
is there healing coming out of Jesus to all who touch Him?
no only to the woman who comes by faith for a healing
there are a lot of Jesus followers who don’t come by faith
V 46 Power went out from me to heal
V 47 she had to publicly confess
she could not just sneak up on Jesus and receive a healing
V 48 your faith has saved you

The Little Girl

Is dead there is nothing that anyone can do now
it is to late don’t bother Jesus He cant do anything
V 49
The mourners are at the house

it was a good 12 years but it is now over, finite, throw in the towel
mourn grieve and get her buried before she starts to stink
To Jairus V 50
V 51
V 52 She is not dead, but asleep
V 53 you are stupid
V 54 called to her and raised her from the dead
V 55 Her spirit and body reunited
V 56 give her something to eat

Salvation

Jairus

All are born hating God
There are none who seek after God
Romans 3:10–12 LSB
as it is written, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME WORTHLESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.”
Every one born is living in darkness
and is considered evil in rebellion against God
John 3:19–20 LSB
“And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed.
Jairus was not seeking Jesus
did not want anything to do with him... but
the Holy Spirit convicted him
John 16:7–11 LSB
“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
The Holy Spirit causes a sinner to realize their sin
to realize their need of a savior
to realize the consequences to their sin
changed his heart from being a proud synagogue leader
to being a beggar
changed his heart to want to bow at the feet of Jesus
coming to Jesus because He is the only way of salvation
The Woman
living in sin her whole life
knows her heart is as black as coal at night
but she has heard about the savior
she believes that he can save her from the burden of guilt
with faith comes repentance
she had to acknowledge her sin
she had to confess to the Lord Jesus her sin
she had to confess her need of a savior
Romans 10:9–10 LSB
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation.
The Child
the loved child has died
representing the loved child of God
The Believer in Christ
we all will die, our spirit will be separated from our bodies
the spirit of the dead will be reunited with the new body
at the resurrection of the dead
Jesus is coming back for His people
1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 LSB
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
and for those who are alive at His coming
1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 LSB
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Like Jairus we have to become a beggar
and bow at the feet of the Lord
and acknowledge our need of a Savior
The Holy Spirit will convict your heart
like the woman we have to come to Jesus by faith in His ability to do the impossible
to save a sinner and make him into a new creation
to cause a person to be born again
so we can be like the little girl who was resurrected from the dead
And be with Christ forever
