3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Introduction
The wedding has taken place, Solomon and his wife are alone in their room at the start of their married life. It is a very intimate setting as their marriage is about to be consummated. Solomon has expressed his great delight in his bride he now speaks of the deep loving intimacy between them.

We turn now to what we see of Christ’s love for us

It is very appropriate that these words should follow hard upon the previous verses which have been filled with the speaking of the bride’s praises. The words must not be understood as the language of Christ withdrawing from his people. Indeed, they are the very opposite. He must see her and be with her, since she is all his own. There is an emphaticness about what he says: it is literally ‘I myself will go’, thus assuring us of his presence waiting for us. Brooks, R. (1999). Song of Songs
