Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Introduction
As we continue in these studies we come to two matters that are vital to the proper activity of the church. Namely Baptism and The Lord’s Supper or Communion.

Baptist Affirmation of Faith 1966 (3. The Ordinances)
We recognise two ordinances, so called because ordained or established by Christ’s authority, namely Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are to be administered by those appointed by the church, and are to continue until the end of the world.

1 Corinthians 11:23–26 ESV
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

a. Ordinance

An ordinance is a religious ritual commanded by Jesus Christ to be observed by the church. As the Affirmation states there are two Baptism and The Lord’s Supper.
Slide

b. Sacrament

Slide
A religious ceremony regarded as imparting divine grace.
Slide
In the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, "the sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us.
They teach that there seven sacraments:-
The seven Catholic sacraments have been separated into three groups.
The first three Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation.
The two Healing Sacraments are Anointing of the Sick and Penance.
The two Sacraments of Vocation are Matrimony and Holy Orders.

2. Baptism

Slide
Baptist Affirmation of Faith 1966 (3. The Ordinances)
The ordinance of Baptism is to be administered in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. The candidates in this ordinance express their separation from the world, and their identity with Christ in his death, burial and resurrection, and their devotion henceforth to him.

He [Jesus] enjoined them to “… make disciples of all nations, baptising them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19). By this command he related baptism to the total work of the Trinity in salvation, and prescribed it as the universal practice of the church. Paul at Ephesus

b. Meaning

Slide
The ordinance is to be administered only to those who have exhibited repentance for sin and made a profession of their faith in Christ. The ordinance is rightly administered by the total immersion of the candidate in water, this mode alone being scriptural and having reference to the burial and resurrection of Christ.

Romans 6:4–6 ESV
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

What prevents me from being baptised?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptised him.
