The people of Israel were called by God to to celebrate His goodness: "Celebrate the Festival of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field" (Exodus 23:16). A good harvest is used by Jesus as a symbol of a rich, spiritual harvest - "Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown" (Mark 4:20). The linking of the physical and the spiritual is found in Psalm 22:26 - "The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise Him."
