Have you ever wondered what it must be like to look into the eyes of Jesus ?
His were eyes of indisputable compassion.
His were eyes of fiery judgment.
There was no getting around it, He had eyes that could see right through you.
He could see people in the dark, far away and even in the future.
What amazing eyes Jesus had.
The eyes of God.
This morning we need to Discover the yees of Jesus as they speak to us of His care.
He cares about us when we are troubled and says look up for his EYES OF COMPASSION.
He cares about us when we are tempted and asks us to look up for his EYES OF CONSECRATION like Joseph.
He cares about us when we are lonely or afraid and asks us to look up for his eyes of confidence like David.
He cares about us when we are sinking and asks us to look up for his eyes of comfort.
He cares about us when we are sinning and asks us to look up and see his eyes of chastening.
We need to look and keep looking into the eyes of Jesus and let Him guide us and care for us as He so longs to do!
Revelation 1:12-16
12/" Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.
And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands,13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band.14
His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and *His eyes like a flame of fire;*15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters;16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength."/
NKJV
The EYES OF JESUS as He Jesus stands in the midst of the church are laser like eyes.
He is looking with a penetrating gaze.
He can see to the core of our being.
Those eyes are as FIRE.
This speaks of the penetrating gaze.
It also speaks of their refining power.
This morning we can experience the eyes of Jesus wherever we are in life.
There are five remarkable instances of the eyes of our Lord Jesus
1. *EYES OF COMPASSION*: Hagar and His compassionate eyes when we are troubled.
Genesis 16:1-13
2. *EYES OF CONSECRATION*: Joseph and His purifying eyes when we are tempted.
Genesis 39:1-9
3. *EYES OF CONFIDENCE*: David and the ever present eyes when we feel alone & afraid Psalm 139
4. *EYES OF COMFORT*: Disciples and the rescuing eyes when we are sinking Mt. 14
5. *EYES OF CHASTENING*: Peter and the sad eyes when we go in our own strength.
Luke 22:54-62
*JESUS AND HIS EYES OF COMPASSION:*
Hagar and His compassionate eyes when we are troubled.
Genesis 16:1-13 /"Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children.
And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.2
So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children.
Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.”
And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.3
Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan.4
So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived.
And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.5
Then Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong be upon you!
I gave my maid into your embrace; and when she saw that she had conceived, I became despised in her eyes.
The Lord judge between you and me.”6
So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.”
And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence.
7 Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur"/
.8
/"And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”9
The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.”10
Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.”11
And the Angel of the Lord said to her:/
/“Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son.
You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has heard your affliction.12
He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every man’s hand against him.
And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”/
13 /Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”/
NKJV
Hagar didn’t choose Abraham, she didn’t want trouble, she was only trying to be a mom and a wife…God understands, God is compassionate.
Jesus sees us where we are!
*JESUS AND HIS EYES OF CONSECRATION:*
Joseph and His purifying eyes when we are tempted.
Genesis 39:1-9/" Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt.
And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.2
The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.3
And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.4
So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him.
Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.5
So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field.
6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate.
Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
7 And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”8
But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.9
“There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife.
How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”/ NKJV
*JESUS AND HIS EYES OF CONFIDENCE: *
David and the ever present eyes when we feel alone & afraid Psalm 139.
Psalm 139:1-12 A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
