Obituary Service for Grover Keen

Notes
Transcript
Being here and part of this day with the family is an honor. We are here to celebrate the life of Grover Counsel Keen. Today is bittersweet because we miss him, but we are also thankful that he is finally and truly at home. Many of you knew him as Daddy or Papa, but we knew him affectionately as Brother Grover or Brother Keen.
Grover Counsel Keen was born on January 1st, 1937, in Glenwood, GA, to Hardy Layton Keen and Mattie Lockhart Keen.
He was a member of the Silent Generation, which some would say was the greatest generation.
In May of that same year, the Hindenburg disaster took place.
FDR, the 32nd President, was in office
Big Band was the style with artists like Tommy Dorsey.
Sweet Leilani by Bing Crosby was the number-one song.
House - $4100
New car - $760
Grover moved to Brunswick when he was 9. He attended Glynn Academy and was in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a conductor with Southern Railway Railroad.
Grover met the love of his life, Freddie Lou, and they got married and had a wonderful family. They stayed together 64 years until his bride went to be with the Lord this past July. (He loved her so dearly and taught his family what that word meant.) He told all of us that He was never getting married again. We all got a laugh out of it, but he was serious.
Brother Keen was a faithful man who served his family but also served the Lord and his church. He was not only a long-time member at Bay Harbour, he was a trustee for the church and the Sunday School Superintendent. That doesn’t come without a great deal of trust.
Survivors include his children, Clint Keen (Leeann), of Waverly, Patty Overby (Tim), and Lisa Tyre, all of Brunswick, and Wendell Keen of Nahunta, grandchildren, Ashley Smith (Mike), Amanda Keen, Josh Keen, Chris Keen, Robyn Gill, Benjamin Tyre (Shelbie), Jessica Tyre, and Brittany Rhodes (Austin), numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freddie Lou Partin Keen, a grandson, Scott Matthew Overby, and siblings, Mary Lockhart, Cecil Keen, Howard Keen, Ovid Keen, and Essie Shadron.
Brother Keen will be greatly missed by all of us who loved him, and we believe that his life has made a great impact on many people. I can only imagine all those standing in line during the roll call in heaven because of Grover Keen.
