Here we see the first ever sermon ever preached in the context that we know today.
This is the first event of church history, This sermon that we are going to be looking at lead 3000 people to Christ.
It launched the chruch as we know it today.
The preaching of the word has always been central to the mission of Christ.

The Refutation (vv 14-15)

Peter was the leader of the Apostles.
In all 4 lists that we see of the Apostles he is always listed first.
Matt 10:2-4, Mark 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16, Acts 1:13.
He was the natural leader often quick to act but also the one with the deepest passion.
Here the crowds are starting to accuse the people of being drunk and this is when Peter stands up and starts to preach.
Here where it say he lifted up his voice: that is the same word as in 2:4 they both mean “spirit filled utterance”.
Just look at the difference in Peter now verses his time when Jesus was on the earth, he was quick tempered and often impulsive, then cowardly when he dienes even knowing who Jesus is.
But here He is bold and confident, not arrogant but filled with a spirit of boldness and one of clarity.
This is what does for people:
He brings Boldness out of timidness
He brings clarity out of confusion
He brings light out of darkness
He brings hope to the hopeless

The Explanation (vv 16-21)

The term here Last Days is a term that is often used in the Old Testament and refers not to a set length of time but the period of time between Christ ascension and His second coming.
That is the last act of this play from the beginning of time until now.
During the church age, God pours His Spirit into believers Titus 3:5–6
Titus 3:5–6 ESV
5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
In the kingdom there will be perfect peace; peace rules now in the hearts of believers. Isa. 9:7
Isaiah 9:7 ESV
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
In the kingdom, Christ will reign; He reigns now in the hearts of His people. Luke 1:33
Luke 1:33 ESV
33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
In the kingdom, Christ will judge all men; now He judges His people through the Spirit’s convicting ministry in their lives.
Acts 17:31 ESV
31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
2 Timothy 4:1 ESV
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
What will ultimately come to full fruition in the kingdom began to be seen at Pentecost.
After hearing Peter quote Joel’s terrifying description of the day of the Lord, the crowd would naturally want to know how to avoid being caught in that time of terror and devastation.
Peter then delivers the climax of his quote from Joel: And it shall be, that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
There is salvation for those who turn to the Savior.
In the main body of his sermon, Peter describes to his hearers exactly who that Savior is and what He requires for salvation.

004 BENEDICTION

May your eyes see the king in his beauty

That you might view a land that stretches afar;

Like Abraham, who looked to a city,

Whose architect and builder is God.
