Lot has moved to the outskirts of Sodom
the people of Sodom an surrounding cities were captured
including Lot and his family
Abram was notified so he took his army and rescued the people and destroyed the captors
Then after he came back from striking down Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).
on the return from rescuing Lot Abram is going to meet a man. this man we will only see once in the Bible. but he is very important.
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.
King of Salem = Righteousness
Priest of the Most High God
Who is this man? where did he come from?
Melchizedek brought out bread and wine
Is this an allusion to the communion of the church?
He blesses Abram
Then he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;
He blesses God
And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then he gave him a tenth of all.
informs Abram that God won the battle for Abram
Then Abram gave a tenth of all to Melchizedek
so here we have the short background that we have about this man
this King, Priest
Now we need a little background on the Tribes of Israel
Judah is the kingly tribe
David comes from the line of Judah
Jesus comes from the line of David
Jesus in the Millennial kingdom will set on the throne of David
Jesus right now is setting on the throne of God in Heaven
The High Priest is from the Tribe of Levi
The High priest is supposed to come through the line of Aaron
but by the the time of Jesus the High Priest was an elected office
the king was never to do the duties of the High priest
the 2 tribes of Israel were separate and to never combine
But when he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to Yahweh his God. And he entered the temple of Yahweh to burn incense on the altar of incense.
he did what a priest was supposed to do
Then Azariah the priest entered after him and with him eighty priests of Yahweh, men of valor.
And they stood against Uzziah the king and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to Yahweh, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron who are set apart as holy to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful and will have no honor from Yahweh God.”
But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of Yahweh, beside the altar of incense.
And Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himself also hastened to get out because Yahweh had smitten him.
So King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in a separate house, being a leper, for he was cut off from the house of Yahweh. And Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
So here we have an example of the two lines trying to do another responsibility
and the drastic outcomes
so this is the background of what I want to talk about
In The Order of Melchizedek

Psalm 110 .
Here God the Father is speaking to God the Son
Jesus is sitting on the throne of God
and The Father is promising to make Jesus the king of the world
Yahweh says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I put Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying, “Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.”
Your people will offer themselves freely in the day of Your power; In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn, The dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours.
Yahweh has sworn and will not change His mind, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
The father is making Jesus a king and a priest
not after the tribes of Israel but after the order of Melchizedek
the book of Hebrews is about the superiority of Jesus
Superior to Angels
Greater than Moses
not just a high priest but a Great High Priest
In this way also Christ did not glorify Himself to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, “YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”;
just as He says also in another passage, “YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.”
in chapter 7 we find that Melchizedek is greater than Arron
For this MELCHIZEDEK, KING OF SALEM, PRIEST OF THE MOST HIGH GOD, who met ABRAHAM AS HE WAS RETURNING FROM THE SLAUGHTER OF THE KINGS and BLESSED HIM,
TO WHOM ALSO ABRAHAM APPORTIONED A TENTH PART OF ALL, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.
Abram gave a tithe to Melchizedek
Now observe how great this man was TO WHOM ABRAHAM, the patriarch, GAVE A TENTH of the spoils.
In Abram giving a tithe to Melchizedek the tribe of Levi was giving a tithe to the greater priest
because normally Levi receives the tithe from the people
And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes,
for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.
So Jesus who has been made in the order of Melchizedek is greater than any priest or high priest
And Jesus in the same order is also the King of Salem that is Jerusalem
not one Jew was a priest and a king
Jesus is superior to them all
King David was only a king
But You
But You
What does the Bible say about you?
God has adopted you into the royal family
you are a prince of the King of Kings
He has made you born from above
He has made you into a new creation
But you are A CHOSEN FAMILY, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
you are also a priest that is superior to Aaron
you can come boldly into the throne room of Heaven anytime you want
Aaron could only come in the Holy of Holies once a year
Like Jesus you are superior to any priest and any king alive today
So live your life with the confidence of who you are in Christ
