Hebrews 11:2 (ESV) —2 For by it the people of old received their commendation.

Divine approval is the primary consequence of faith. Other results of faith are: (1) the declaration of righteousness; (2) the ability to look forward to the heavenly city of God; (3) the recognition that sin is a short-lived pleasure; (4) the ability to understand that faith is possible only because God is faithful; (5) the ability to accomplish great things in the world; and (6) the ability to see that even when believers are persecuted and murdered, beyond this world is a better resurrection.[1]

Hebrews 10:35–39 (ESV) — 35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. 37 For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; 38 but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

All the Old Testament promises related to the future—for many believers, far into the future. But the faithful among God’s people acted as if they were in the present tense. They simply took God at His word and lived on that basis. They were people of faith, and faith gave present assurance and substance to what was yet future.[2]

All the Old Testament promises related to the future—for many believers, far into the future. But the faithful among God’s people acted as if they were in the present tense. 2 Corinthians 5:7 gives us the clear understanding when it says, "...for we walk by faith, not by sight."
Faith is convinced that what God promises will most certainly be fulfilled.[4]
