Gus Hertz of Roanoke, Virginia was right on hand for saving folks in trouble during his vacation in St. Petersburg, Fl. First he saw a car go over a seawall and he pulled the driver of the submerged car to safety. That is a great once in a lifetime opportunity to save another life. Gus’s once in a lifetime opportunity happened again the next day when an ultralight plane crashed in the ocean right next to his fishing boat. This time he pulled the pilot and a passenger from the deep.
I won’t say that Gus is like Jesus, but like Gus, Jesus is always near when we need salvation. He is as close as the prayer line. Like Peter on the Sea of Galilee we only need to utter the words, “Lord, save me.” --Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell
