INTRO:
Do you remember the first few moments of being a mom or dad?
It is a life-changing moment
Studies have shown that something chemically changes in your brain as a parent when your child is born. It gives you a phycological connection to your child. Before being a parent people make statements like: “I don’t care if I am ever a parent” “I could never love a hyper child like that” “I could never change a diaper” “I hate kids”
But something happens at the birth of your child.
What does the Bible say about Parenting, and raising children?

1. Children Are A Reward

Psalm 127:3–5 NLT
3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. 4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. 5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

2. Children Are A Responsibility

A. We have a responsibility to care for them

Ephesians 6:4 NLT
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Psalm 103:13 (NLT)
13 The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
1 Timothy 5:8 NLT
8 But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.

B. We are responsible to discipline them

Proverbs 23:13 (NLT)
13 Don’t fail to discipline your children. The rod of punishment won’t kill them.
Mary Coram’s Scriptures on Discipline
