A Canadian family woke up to find a bag containing a digital camera, an X-box, along with a note, and $50 cash on their porch. The items had been stolen from them the previous day while the family was out walking their dog. The note was from the thief apologizing and seeking the family’s forgiveness. The person explained how sorry they were, and that breaking into their house had been the worst decision of their life. They said they had experienced hard times lately, but regretted turning to crime. The note said the $50 was to cover damages done to the screen door during the break-in. The family was stunned because they had not noticed the items were missing. Though they were willing to let the incident go, authorities are looking for the suspect. Sergeant Doug Pflug with the Ontario police said he wasn’t sure what would be done if the thief were caught. He explained, “Just when you lose your faith in humanity, instead of ditching the property in the garbage can, or what have you, they returned it.”— Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell
