what thoughts come into your mind when i
say the word father
i invite you to come with me on a
journey where we're going to experience
and discover the extravagant love of god
we understand from the scripture that
god is a trinity of persons
the father the son and the holy spirit
and these can be represented by
three doors we have the privilege of
having a relationship with each member of the
trinity this begins with a relationship with
jesus and this occurs when jesus becomes more

my senior year of college i was

searching for truth

there was a deep emptiness in my life

it's one october morning i was

depressed and bummed out and i went into

the student center and got

a chocolate ice cream cone because

and so i got my chocolate ice cream cone

and went outside and sat

on the frosty ground underneath the

golden leaves that were turning

under the blue montana sky and as i was

licking on my ice cream cone this

stranger approached me

there had never been a stranger that had

come into my life

with the purpose of sharing jesus with

me so this man came up to me

he looked down at me and he said praise

the lord i had never heard

anyone say praise the lord before and he

pulled out his bible and he said can i

and so i was a hippie you know make love

and so he sat down beside me and he

pulled out his bible that was a size

of about the size of a wallet and he

began to read

scriptures from me no one had ever done

and he would read scriptures from

strange sounding books like ephesians

and he would read several verses then he

would look at me and he'd point his

finger and he'd say

you need to get saved and then he'd read

on to another verse of scripture

and after reading several verses he'd

saved the interesting thing is i really

don't remember

any of those scriptures but what i

is this young man had something that i

did not have

i could tell in his face i could tell in

his voice

i could tell in his eyes that he had

spiritual reality

and that was attractive to me so after

about 10 minutes of this exchange

he suddenly put his bible back in his

backpack he stood up and he said praise

the lord

and he walked away and i've never seen

that individual sense

and i'm sure that young man walked away

discouraged

because from his vantage point nothing

happened but i want to tell you what

happened in my heart

god shot a little laser beam of light

into my dark little world

and for the first time i considered that

maybe it was

jesus that i had been seeking for and

did something that moment that came to

later when i attended a rock and roll

sponsored by high alpha and it was

through the testimony of this rock and

that i had a revelation of jesus and i

was born again

this occurred literally while i was

sitting at the sound table i was hired

as the sound man for the concert

and so during the concert as this man

giving a brilliant poignant testimony

suddenly jesus appeared to me and he

just said these words

so not only was i born again but i was

grafted into this

incredibly loving community of students

this group of people loved me they

welcomed me into their world

and they showed me this is what it's

like to walk with jesus

and i can remember the the rejection

that i had felt in the

in in the times before i knew the lord

and that rejection

was really healed by the love of these

students that

that genuinely welcomed me into their

lives

and i enjoyed going to meetings where

the spirit of god was real

the presence of god was real and and the

lord was just

doing a deep work within me one of the

things that i noticed in these meetings

is that i heard people quietly speaking

in other languages and i really knew

nothing about the bible

i didn't know anything about the baptism

in the holy spirit

and so i figured that these people were

smart people they were college students

and i figured they just spoke in

languages like german french
4:55
spanish and italian i had no idea that

god had supernaturally

provided a language for them so after

several weeks

of witnessing the presence of god and

hearing

people speak in these unknown languages

i finally asked one of my friends

i said why are these people speaking in

foreign languages

and he told me he said dick that is

called the baptism in the holy spirit

well i had never heard that term

and so seeing my confusion he said i

encourage you to go home and read the

book of acts

so i did that i had an old good news for

modern man that a

person from campus crusade had

distributed on campus the year before

so i pulled that book off my shelf and i

started reading for the first time

the book of acts and as i read the

account from the bible

i was amazed at the work the holy spirit

and being a good student i had a yellow

highlighter so i started yellow

highlighting all the places

where the holy spirit was mentioned and

as i read through the book of acts i

noticed two things

i noticed that when the holy spirit

would come

there would be this accompanying event

or this accompanying sign

of people speaking in new languages

and so you know romans 10 17 tells us

faith comes by hearing hearing by the

and so faith entered my heart that i

too could have one of these languages

and so after i concluded my study of the

book of acts

i two things happened one as i hold i

had a yellow book of acts

because the whole book is about the holy

spirit and the second thing

is i had the assurance and the promise

from god that i

too could have this baptism in the holy

so i went to the next chi alpha meeting

and during the very first song of

worship

and by the way no one knew that i was on

no one was aware that i was seeking for

the baptism in the spirit

and during the very first song of

worship the young man that was leading

the singing with his acoustic guitar

he suddenly put his guitar down and he

came over to the couch where i was

he laid his hands on me and he said lord

spirit what amazed me

was that i had just prayed a prayer

that jesus would fill me with the holy

so this created an incredibly powerful

supernatural moment where jesus answered

my prayer and i thought

right at that moment

but later on in the meeting we were

praying for an individual

we brought them to the center of the

room and the leader explained that we

were going to go into

warfare kind of prayer and so we were

all praying intensely

and suddenly as i am praying for this

i'm not praying in the very limited

spanish that i knew

i wasn't but i was praying in a language

that came from the holy spirit

and to a to my amazement i

spoke words that i had never imagined

and that's because the words were not

coming from my intellect

but they're coming from my spirit and i

was amazed as i would speak these new

these beautiful words with syntax

and with beauty and with articulation as

i would speak these words

mentality i was analyzing those those

and it was a sign to me that this was

not something that i was making up but

it was a clear sign to me that this

was the holy spirit because there's no

any language that beautiful so that was

a testimony to me that this was a

the second thing that happened to me is

i walked through that second door which

in supernatural ways and i've got story
