Notes & Transcripts

After a fire broke out in the engine room of the cruise ship, Triumph in the Gulf of Mexico, 400-plus passengers and crew endured several days of hardship before the ship could be towed back to port. Joseph and Cecilia Alvarez were among the passengers on that cruise. On the morning the fire broke out, the Alvarez’s were concerned about what might happen, but decided to help encourage others by starting a Bible study. The group gathered on the upper deck and started with a group of 25 people who shared testimonies, prayed, and sang songs of praise along with reading passages from the Psalms. Being part of the group, which was made up of all ages and denominations helped the participants pass the time and keep their focus on the Lord. Mr. Alvarez said the group trusted that God would bring them home safely, and He did. Thinking back on the Bible study, he added, “It uplifted them. You could see it. You could feel it.”
