COME TO WORSHIP—3
POUR OUT YOUR HEART
What kind of doctor is Dr. Pepper?
A fizziscian
Why didn’t Dewayne Johnson’s downstairs neighbor recognize him? He’s been living under a rock.
Psalm 62:5–8 NIV
5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. 6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:5-8
Lift hands, Bring gifts, in next kneel our knees— These are more traditional and obvious ways of worship.
Not as obvious to some: Pour out your heart.
Not just worship from your mind—depths of your soul…
IF you find yourself very Blessed, thankful, overwhelmed with God’s goodness—pour out hearts.
Some are just existing, not much wrong, not much right—pour out hearts.
Some are hurting, and i feel this message will speak even more to you are scared, confused, alone —Pour out your hearts and cry out to him because God cares for the broken hearted and he draws near to them.
Let me start with a couple verses of scripture written by David in very difficult times in his life...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Psalm 142:2 NIV
2 I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.
2 I pour out before him my complaint;
He isn’t saying god is great, but let me tell you what is wrong…let me pour out my complaint….
before him I tell my trouble. 5 I cry to you, Lord;
Psalm 142:5 NIV
5 I cry to you, Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
and we will watch as he calls God this very special thing… he says...
I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Ps 142:2, 5
He uses the same phrase later in...
Psalm 62:8 NIV
8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Ps 62:8
Research on the word refuge… of all 6 of the Levitical cities when David lived they were a place of refuge—accidentally killed someone—safety.
Lots of children have a Safe place—maybe a closet unless thats where the monsters live... club house, blankey.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a lot of us as we get older our safe place is no longer a place but it has become a person… our safe place is a with a person.
High School Tommy… trailer… people were scared… he was just Tommy to me… felt safe...
Bad storms during the night… they come running in.. if Jennifer is not awake terrified somehow… not because its safer… but because we are there...
Monster under bed they never left, but when your parents are there you are safe...
IF you are parents with older children, some that have started to live life on their own, you know that you feel so good when your children make you feel needed again, they can’t do it and they really need your help.. I won’t tell them but you know how good it makes you feel to know that you are needed by them
God is the same way, he loves when his children realize how needed he is and we come to him as our refuge, and let me encourage you
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AS YOU POUR OUT YOUR HEART REMEMBER GOD’S FAITHFULNESS IN THE PAST.
as you cry out to god reflect back to his faithfulness and goodness in the past….
Psalm 42…. Not sure who wrote—David—when Absalom his son had rebelled against him—many believe God rejected David.
Psalm 42:3 NIV
3 My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
some of you feel like that, you cry yourself to sleep every night...
while people say to me all daylong, “Where is your God?”
In other words if you are serving God why is this happening… then the key part in verse 4
Psalm 42:4 NIV
4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.
4 These things I remember as I pour out my
soul:
as I cry out to god, as I ache within...
how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty
One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throne
and its almost as if he is about to start preaching to himself.. if I remember these things then...
Psalm 42:5 NIV
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
.5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I
will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Ps. 42:3-5
I don’t know about you but every now and again I have to remember the faithfulness of God, and we have to preach to ourselves and remind ourselves of what God has done and put our hope into God.
I want to give you a chance to cry out to god and pour out your heart to him to say this doesn’t make sense God, or why is this happening God… why aren’t you doing what you could or I think you should do… and as you do remember the faithfulness of God to you in your past...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the old testament there is another amazing story of Jerimiah—Lamentations 3
and he says I am the man who has seen affliction…
19 verses of pain, anguish, complaints…
You also have permission to do this before God… you have the right to complain… God why am I such a wreck financially? I need you why hasn’t this happened yet… for your children… Jesus why is this going on why can’t they listen, why don’t they come to know you… you have the right to take that before God just like Jeremiah and come to him for answers and seek him...
Here is how Jeremiah says it...
Lamentations 3:19–23 NIV
19 I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. 20 I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. 21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
19 I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. 20 I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. 21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
In the middle of his desperate cry from his soul he remembers the goodness of God, ^
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lam 3:19-23 (Jeremiah)
Yet I call this to mind and therefore I have hope… you get lost when you cry out to God and then remember his faithfulness….
Some of you need to remember when….
Christ saved you * Answered your prayer * Provided for you and it couldn’t be anyone else but God…
hurting and felt all alone...Read a verse * Heard a song * came into church and like I wrote the Message just for you
Yet i call this to mind and therefore I have hope….
I remember God’s faithfulness and bringing me a beautiful woman that would walk through ministry with me...
I remember God standing beside us when we thought we may lose Josiah...
I remember God standing beside us when Charis was in Nicu
I remember fasting two years ago that God would give us at least 100 people in a service… and that year he did...

AS YOU POUR OUT YOUR HEART
TRUST IN GOD’S POWER FOR YOUR FUTURE.
The Psalmist: The lowest point you can imagine…. and he pours out his heart...Mental, physical, social, spiritual crisis. (11 vs in Ps 102)
Psalm 102:1 NIV
1 Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you.
Psalm 102:2 NIV
2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
Psalm 102:5 NIV
5 In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones.
Psalm 102:7 NIV
7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof.
Psalm 102:8 NIV
8 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse.
1 Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you. 2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly…5 In my distress I groan aloud and am reduced to skin and bones…7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. 8 All day long my enemies taunt me…
Then there are three words that change everything, and for some of you that is the exact reason that you are here this morning… your enemies taunt you, but you Lord…
Psalm 102:12 NIV
12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations.
Psalm 102:17 NIV
17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.
12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations... 17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. Ps 102:1-2, 5, 7, 8-9, 12, 16
Some of you are about to have a but you God moment…. I don’t understand God… I hate this… from the depths of your pain and your sorrow… and there will come a place where you
Push through the pain to the place of praise.
God I don’t like it; God i wish there was some other way; but you God…. you are still on the throne… but you god are working in all things to bring about good to those who love you and are called according to your purpose
Some of you have lost someone and it hurts and you hate it…. and you say You oh god have never left me….
Stop pleading and start praising!
Lost someone * Rejected but you god * Unemployed but you god* Financially stressed but you god * Medical issues but you God * Don’t understand * Afraid * Confused.
Pour your heart out—God can handle it.
But you—Lord… Remember his goodness as you cry out!
and suddenly your plea for help will turn to praise… push through the pain through to the point of praise...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At some point you may just thank God in advance… thank you I may not get it now but I know I will look back and see that you were using this to help me… and you will start to praise him in spite of everything...
Yet I call this to mind, therefore I have hope because You oh God are alway faithful…. take your time to cry out to him… and look back on what he has done and remember he has always been faithful in the past and he is good in the present…so therefore you can trust him with the future...
Cry out to him today… if you feel like it is all bad, like you need him, like nothing is going right…. and I want to give you a time to cry out to him this morning...
EXTRA SONG HERE maybe about pouring out your heart?
No one looking let me pray for those of you that are in the middle of a difficult time…you’re hurting… want me to pray for you… raise your hand...
As you keep praying… you will realize you don’t have a personal relationship with God… Im not talking about doing good or bad things… you aren’t good.. but God sent his son to die on the cross so that we could be forgiven, and not just that but so that we could have an intimate relationship with him…. you could be like me… for some of you you realize that you need to pour out your heart to him and give him your life and you are asking him to save you… and you say today I am asking God to save me.. today I need you...
Heavenly father…forgive me…for all my sins… and say I need you… be first in my life… my savior and lord… fill me with your spirit so I can serve and follow you….
Worship big right now and welcome those born into the family of God...
