Let’s play a short game to try this out……
Just like many of you who tried to act out what was on the screen, we’re going to read about a gentlemen who was mute when it came time to name the baby. Let’s read Luke 1:57-66
Luke 1:57–66 ESV
57 Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. 58 And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. 59 And on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child. And they would have called him Zechariah after his father, 60 but his mother answered, “No; he shall be called John.” 61 And they said to her, “None of your relatives is called by this name.” 62 And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called. 63 And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they all wondered. 64 And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. 65 And fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, 66 and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child be?” For the hand of the Lord was with him.
We read two weeks back when Zechariah entered the Holy of Holies. Upon entering angle appeared and told him that he and wife, who were old, that they were going to have a baby. Zechriah doubted the angel and asked for proof. So angel muted Zechariah and told him that would not be able to speak until your son is born and name him, John.
When Zechariah was asked about what to name the child, he grabbed a writing tablet and wrote down John. As soon as he did, God released his tongue and he was able to speak. The first thing out of his mouth were praises to God.

Learn the Lesson in Silence

Zechariah was muted because of his lack of faith. For 9 whole months, he was unable to speak. He worked and tended to his pregnant wife without being able to speak. In the silence, Zechariah had time to learn some lessons. The greatest lesson - trusting GOD. When it comes to learning to trust God, it is not by constant questions, it is not by inputting your own ideas. It is in silence, we listen. It is in silence we learn.
There might be some time for you this Christmas season to break away from the business and excitement of Christmas, and come to God in silence. Not that you have to be silent but that your surrounding is silent and you can personally pray to God.
Personally pray to God about your family, friends, relationship, personal struggles. Repeatedly come to Christ and learning to trust Him
When we learn the lesson in silence, there will come a time to (second point)

Sharing the Lesson in Praise

The Bible says Zechariah’s mouth was opened and tongue let loose. When it came loose, he began proclaiming blessings to God.
The lesson he learned in silence about trusting God, he could not help but share with those around when it came time to speak.
I believe the rest of your Christian life you will be in these stages. Sometimes it may even be both. Stay constant in a time of learning. Never stop rejoicing.
What can you learn during this Christmas break that you can share with your family & friends? What area of your life can trust God with? Then how can you share that with others. It might be when you share it with someone else, it sparks interest in their life
