Luke 2:25–35 KJV 1900
And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart In peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

The Travel to Jerusalem

Fulfillment of The Law/Covenant of Israel with God.
Leviticus 12:1–4 AV 1873
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.
This trip is roughly seven miles from Bethlehem to Jerusalem. According to I maps this would take about 2 1/2 hours to walk today.
Mary and Joseph were obeying the revealed Word of God without fully understanding what the full will of God was for them or the little new born Jesus.

The Spirit Lead Simeon

It is important to point out that only select individuals in the Old Testament were said to have the Spirit upon or within them. Abraham Gen 41:28, Joshua Num 27:15-17; Deut 34:9; Josh 1:5. The difference between the work of the Spirit in the Old Testament and the New is the regenerative work of the Spirit upon those who receive Christ as their Savior by faith.
The Spirit ministry for the post-resurection believer is the blessing of the indwelling Christ
Colossians 1:27 KJV 1900
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Enabling the believers to walk in the steps of Christ walking as He walked
1 Peter 2:21 KJV 1900
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
1 John 2:6 KJV 1900
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
The Holy Spirit was still leading people who were humble enough to ask and obey. The revealing work of the Spirit through Simeon shows us that God used different methods and people to show mankind His will and His glory.
Hebrews 1:1–2 KJV 1900
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
2 Peter 1:21 KJV 1900
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
