A Bible signed by renowned physicist Albert Einstein sold at a New York City auction for $68,500. The final price exceeded pre-sales estimates by thousands. Most observers believed that at best the rare Bible would bring between $1,500 and $2,500. The Bible was signed by both the Nobel prize-winning scientist and wife in 1932 when they gave it to a friend who lived in the United States. The auction house said part of the added value was an inscription Einstein penned in German on the page he signed. The physicist wrote, the Bible “is a great source of wisdom and consolation and should be read frequently.”—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell
