Some sources say that Polynesians and their ancestors have been navigating the seas since around 1500 BC.
Here in Hawai’i you might be familiar with the journeys of the Hokule’a and the Hikianalia as part of the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s plan to perpetuate and revive the ancient non-instrument wayfinding and navigation of the Polynesian People.
The Polynesian voyagers used a variety of methods of non-instrument navigation and wayfinding including navigation by using the stars, the sun, the ocean swells, and various animals.
For centuries, the stars have been used to navigate because they are reliable constant and predictable to aid in getting the traveler to their desired destination.
God has given us a destiny, a life-destination, that is unique to each and every one of us.
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Our God-given destiny is a destination that we want to arrive at.
If we intend to get somewhere specific, we must actually know how to navigate.
Just like ancient and modern celestial navigators must use fixed guides and truths in the stars in order to get to their intended destination, we need a fixed source of objective truth in our world.
Truth, as much as it might be publicized and shouted today, is not subjective only.
There is objective truth.
Gravity is an objective truth.
Gravity on Earth is true & going to work no matter how you might feel.
No matter what navigators might have felt, the constellations told the truth of their position on the globe.
You won’t see the Big Dipper in the Southern Hemisphere and you won’t see the Southern Cross in the Northern Hemisphere except in a very small sliver.
Jesus calls Himself the Bright and Morning Star (Revelation 22:16)
Jesus also says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” - John 14:6.
Jesus is not just the star of Christmas, but He wants to be the bright & morning star and guiding truth of each of our life.
The personal & tangible leading and guiding of Jesus will enable each one of us to get to our personal destiny if we follow Him.
Matthew 7:13–14 NKJV
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
I certainly don’t want to be a spiritual Christopher Columbus who thought he got to his intended destination of India, China, & the Spice Islands but ended up on a completely different continent.
Isaiah 48:17 NKJV
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.

Just One Thing:

Jesus is Bright and Morning Star that we must intently follow in order to reach our God-given destiny.
