John 11:1 NKJV
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
John 11:4 NKJV
4 When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
John 11:17 NKJV
17 So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.
John 11:20–21 NKJV
20 Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21 Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
John 11:25–26 NKJV
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:39–40 NKJV
39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”
The Bible is full of extremes
++Life and death
++Blessing and cursing
++Good and evil

These extremes are markers of life

In Marriage vows we say
++In good and the bad
++For better or worst
++In sickness and in health
++Richer or poorer

No one really goes into the relationship expecting the latter.

Happily ever after

Daily we are faced with Solomon’s reality

Ecclesiastes 3:1–5 NKJV
1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: 2 A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; 3 A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;

In every season God is there.

God makes himself visible through His Glory

God’s Hidden Glory

His glory is
++Animated in Adversity
++Concealed in Calamity
++Punctuated in Pain

What is the Glory of God?

Glory is defined as an attribute of
++Splendor
++Weight
++Power
++Majesty

Glory is a specific manifestation of the presence of God

Psalm 97:6 NKJV
6 The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory.
To see denotes
++To understand
++To show
++To reveal
Psalm 63:1–2 NKJV
1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. 2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.
His seeking of God
++Was personal
++Was intentional
++Was vital to life
++Was his pursuit
So He turns to the sanctuary
++To see God’s Power
++To see God’s Glory

The sanctuary was special

The Sanctuary
++Declares the Goodness of God
Psalm 73:1–3 NKJV
1 Truly God is good to Israel, To such as are pure in heart. 2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; My steps had nearly slipped. 3 For I was envious of the boastful, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
The Sanctuary
Declares the Goodness of God
++Was different from the world
Psalm 73:4–11 NKJV
4 For there are no pangs in their death, But their strength is firm. 5 They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like other men. 6 Therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them like a garment. 7 Their eyes bulge with abundance; They have more than heart could wish. 8 They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression; They speak loftily. 9 They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walks through the earth. 10 Therefore his people return here, And waters of a full cup are drained by them. 11 And they say, “How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?”
Psalm 73:12–14 NKJV
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, Who are always at ease; They increase in riches. 13 Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, And washed my hands in innocence. 14 For all day long I have been plagued, And chastened every morning.
The Sanctuary
Declares the Goodness of God
Was different from the world
++Provides new perspective
Psalm 73:17 NKJV
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then I understood their end.
Knowing the end of the wicked
++Is no reason to rejoice
++Is no cause to celebrate
++Is a time for tears

Promise of God’s Glory

Isaiah 40:5 NKJV
5 The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

God Person of Glory

John 1:14 NKJV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 3:17 NKJV
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Romans 5:1–2 NKJV
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

The Proof of God’s Glory

Ephesians 1:17–18 NKJV
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
Colossians 1:27 NKJV
27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

The Power of God’s Glory

John 11:43–44 NKJV
43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
God’s Glory
++Cries out
++Call to you
++Raises you up
++Brings you out
God’s Glory is not limited
++To building
++To places
++To objects

“Revealed so we can Rejoice”

God has left the building!
