A telephone survey conducted by the Rasmussen organization found that the majority of Americans think that rude behavior is increasing. The poll surveyed 1,000 people chosen at random and found that only one in ten American adults think the people they meet are becoming kinder and gentler. Instead, 77 percent of those who responded said they believed that other citizens were becoming ruder and acting less civilly. Half of the people who responded said they have confronted another person over their behavior.—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell
