Scripture Invitation:

As we prepare our hearts for God's Word, I summon your senses and invite your intellect to the book of Proverbs, chapter 3, verses 5 to 7.
It is here that the Holy Spirit has highlighted our context for our brief sermonic time together this morning.

Bible Passage:

"Trust God from the bottom of your heart. Don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!" (Proverbs 3:5-7, The Message)

Introduction:

In this fast-paced and uncertain world, it becomes increasingly important for us to trust God amidst the chaos and confusion.
As we dive into Proverbs 3:5-7, we find a treasure trove of wisdom that speaks directly to our experiences.
Let's explore the context and deeply connect with the message God has for us today.

Context

The book of Proverbs, authored by King Solomon, reveals invaluable insights for living a godly life.
Proverbs 3 emphasizes the benefits of acquiring wisdom and retaining God's teachings in our hearts.

Illustration:

“Imagine a ship sailing through treacherous waters, surrounded by dangerous rocks and rough waves.
It navigates through this perilous journey with the help of a skilled captain who has extensive knowledge of the sea.
Similarly, as believers, our journey through life can sometimes feel daunting, but we have God as our captain, guiding us through the stormy seas.”
As we explore Proverbs 3:5-7;
I invite you to open your hearts and minds as we unpack three critical points that emphasize the importance of trusting God wholeheartedly, listening for His voice, and avoiding presumptions by running to Him.

1. We need to Trust God Wholeheartedly

We are called to place our unwavering trust in God, surrendering our doubts, fears, and worries.
Psalm 37:5 CSB
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act,
By acknowledging His faithfulness, we can experience peace and assurance in all circumstances.
Proverbs 16:3 CSB
Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

2. We need to Listen for God's Voice

In our fast-paced world filled with noise and distractions, it is crucial to cultivate an environment that enables us to hear God's voice clearly.
Isaiah 30:21 CSB
and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
John 10:27 CSB
My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.
By prioritizing prayer, studying His Word, and seeking spiritual guidance, we can discern His leading in every decision we make.

3. We need to Avoid Presumptions & Run to God

According to Webster’s Dictionary a Presumption is: an idea that is taken to be true, and often used as the basis for other ideas, although it is not known for certain.
Human understanding is limited, and assuming that we know it all can lead us astray.
Proverbs 28:26 CSB
The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.
Instead, we must approach God with humility, recognizing our need for Him and turning away from evil.
Jeremiah 17:9 CSB
The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable—who can understand it?
