The Herald of Transformation

Matthew 3:1–2 CSB
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!”

How does John Preach?

John preached through the power of the Holy Spirit
God has a message and He works through a man by the Holy Spirit!
When some one preaches the Spirit is at work in the Preacher (If they are bible believing and spirit filled)
And the message if a Spirit empowered message
This is why Paul would say-
Romans 1:16–17 CSB
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.

The Power of the Message!

John the Baptizer preached the message of repentance -

to change one’s mind or purpose,”

Often with the message of repentance we think of it as simple confession of sin, but it is a change that occurs in our hearts
The word in the New Testament always Involves a change for the better, and that change is always
The message of repentance is a message that says, “things can Change, you don’t have to remain in the same state of mind or life.”
And this message is from God
Matthew 3:3 CSB
For he is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, who said: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight!
The Message of Repentance is the opposition to the message of religion
Religion keeps to stuck to the regulations
You have to abide by the rules
You must do these things in order to be in good standing
It is based on your works
‘on your efforts
Isaiah 64:6 CSB
All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.
The message of religion keeps you here- in this place bound in sin
Bound in sin
The message of Repentance- Offers New life
- is to admit that you can’t do it
and it is fall into the Grace of God!
Listen to what God says
Ezekiel 36:24–27 CSB
“ ‘For I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances.
God’s promise is a new creation life- that begins with a new heart
The change from a former corrupt broken state
Into Wholeness and healing
New Heart, and a new confession
Romans 5:16–17 CSB
And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification. If by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
Repentance is a gift that takes us from death to life, because repentance is accepting the Gift of God
the New life that comes through Jesus christ
This is what John calls the Pharisees to produce-

The Fruit of Repentance

It is what is now produced inside , and through you
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 CSB
Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Such were some of you but you have been washed
The things that you once did that produced death, have been washed away and now you are Justified- made right
Galatians 5:19–25 CSB
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things—as I warned you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
The fruit of the life of those who have been washed
Where you use to do things that cause death
Drugs
Drinking
sleeping around
The things that left you empty
God has washed away- and now those who are Christ produce lasting fruit

The Kingdom of God-

Repent because the kingdom of God is at had

The Kingdom of God is an odd term for us-
But just as it said in Romans 5:17-18- That sin reigned- and you see the results of sin reigning in this world
When when we repent we come under a new ruler- We enter the kingdom where God reigns and Jesus is on the throne!
basileia (βασιλεία, 932) is primarily an abstract noun, denoting “sovereignty, royal power, dominion,”
Vine, W. E., Merrill F. Unger, and William White Jr. 1996. In Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, 2:344. Nashville, TN: T. Nelson.
The kingdom of God is sphere of God’s authority-
Jesus told the religious leaders
Matthew 21:31 CSB
Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
The ones who surrender to the will of God are the ones who repent and exchange the the kingdom that is ruled by sin, for the Kingdom that is ruled by God!
Luke 18:9–14 CSB
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee was standing and praying like this about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I’m not like other people—greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’ “But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even raise his eyes to heaven but kept striking his chest and saying, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this one went down to his house justified rather than the other, because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Repent for the Kingdom of God is near, and you can be set free!
