Jesus is determined to go to the cross/ Jerusalem
He has a mission from the Father to accomplish
Isaiah 50 says that He set His face like flint
time is running short’
and the perfect time for Jesus to die is about 6 months away
to get to Jerusalem they are going through Samaria
as we know Samaritans and Jews don’t get along
so lets see what happens
read V 51-56

Jesus sends a delegate ahead to prepare for the night
this is a small village to take in 13 + travelers and feed them
so preparations have to be made

But since these are Jews
and they are going to Jerusalem/ the Jewish center of worship
not going to Mt. Gerazim the Samaritan center of worship
so they said no
already there is rejection

so the delegation comes back to report
this enrages the disciple known for his love
but not yet
James and John just came down off the mountain
they saw Elijah and Moses
and remembered that Elijah called down fire
And Elijah answered and spoke to the commander of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
since they are feeling privileged
superior to everybody

lets bring judgement on these people since we don’t like them anyways

this is who we were we deserved for fire to be called down on us
what would happen if before we were saved God deservedly made us a human marshmallow over a campfire

The Holy Spirit will turn him into the apostle of love

so he says lets call fire down on them. can we please

V 1 -4 Saul persecutes the church in Jerusalem
people were scattered
V 5-17 people were saved and Peter and John went and they also recieved the Holy Spirit
The village and the city are not to far apart
I am sure that there were people from this village that became Christians
but if Jesus would have answered Johns prayer.
they would have died in their sins
we don’t know what God is doing behind the scenes
we might get angry at someone and want God to handle the situation
and he does he saves them
who is God’s elect?
who is God going to save?
sometimes the ones who are the most violent against God are the ones that God is working in their heart
for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”] And they went on to another village.
and they moved on
the most loving thing that could be done
