The Stated Purpose

Luke 19:10 NLT
For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
The first thing to understand about the coming of Christ is His mission!
He didn’t come to make our lives easier, better, or richer. Those are all a result of the mani reason, to redeem us back to God!
Understanding the problem:
Man sinned and could not redeem himself before God.
Romans 5:12 NLT
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
From the moment Adam and Eve disobeyed, death was reigning in the life of the eternal creature man!
We are told in the book of Hebrews that death was holding people captive!
Hebrews 2:15 NLT
Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.
You see the fear of dying is what keeps us hanging on to this life!
If there is no hope for the future then why restrain ourselves here?
Hence man through his life to the wind in an attempt to squeeze out every ounce of pleasure!
So how to redeem man if there are no men who qualify to offer redemption?
Enter the plan of God!
Hebrews 2:14 AMP
Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to nought and make of no effect him who had the power of death—that is, the devil—
Philippians 2:6–7 NLT
Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,
The Apostle John testified of this fact
John 1:14 NLT
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
Later the apostle testified again
1 John 4:14 NLT
Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
We see in the Old Testament that a lamb had to be sacrificed and its blood placed upon the doorpost of the house in order for the judgement of death to “passover” those who were covered by the blood.
Remember that there wasn’t a qualification on who could be in the house! Just that being “covered by the blood” would mean salvation!
When the priest entered the Holy of Holies to God’s presence, He would pour the blood offering over the mercy seat and that is where God said He would meet them!
Exodus 25:21–22 NLT
Place inside the Ark the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you. Then put the atonement cover on top of the Ark. I will meet with you there and talk to you from above the atonement cover between the gold cherubim that hover over the Ark of the Covenant. From there I will give you my commands for the people of Israel.
John again testified of His coming mission
John 1:29–30 NLT
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’
You see the blood of the sacrifices of the OT were not enough to forgive sin but rather to cover them
Hebrews 10:10–14 NLT
For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
We see at the end of the age the fulfillment of His promise
1 Peter 1:3 AMP
Praised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Revelation 5:6 NLT
Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth.
Revelation 7:17 NLT
For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
Revelation 19:9 NLT
And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”
Revelation 22:1 NLT
Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
This is our God! We can sum up His character in one verse
John 3:16 AMP
For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
Everything els is icing on the cake
As we study the life of Christ, let us alway keep end-goal in mind and we will see the intentions of His teaching and life!
