Read Colossians 1:24-2:3

Explanation

Something’s missing if…Jesus died and people don’t know why. (1:24)
What is lacking? (Jesus said, “It is finished.”) People’s knowledge of the mystery.
The work on the cross is finished, but not the work of telling people.
John Piper & Phil. 2:30
The good news is only good if it’s news.
[student’s friend this week not knowing why Jesus died] (I155)
Evangelistic plea — explain the gift! Tell a friend this week
Something’s missing if…we’re content to be saved but not suffer & be sent. (1:25-27)
Paul received a commission with his conversion.
“to me for you” — who is waiting for you to answer the commission?
Life to the full only comes with commitment to the full (which means suffering)
[safest place for your child to be…stay or go home?] (PBT3)
Something’s missing if…only a portion of the body is mature. (1:28-2:3)
[leaders assume the shortcomings of others] (I156)
mature — taking care of yourself and of others
if you’re the 30 year old Christian living in your parents basement…grow up
if you’re a new Christian, stay the course

Exhortation

Take ownership of your faith and the faith of others.
non-Christian — place your faith in Jesus
immature — taking responsibility for your growth and not outsourcing
maturing — sharing your faith + caring for the faith of others
