1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.
1, 2 Ye refers to any Israelites sold to heathen masters, who hence were in danger of being tempted to idolatry, while in this servitude.
idols = non-entities … Heb. ’ĕlīlīm = clay or terra cotta “gods”. Cp. 1 Cor. 8:4. Occurs only once more in Pentateuch, Lev. 19:4.
graven image. Heb. pesel, an idol of wood or stone.
standing image. Heb. Maẓẓēbāh, a sacred pillar. In Gen. always “pillar”. Cp. v. 30.
image of stone. Heb. maskīth, a sculptured or painted stone. Cp. v. 30.
Intro:
HOSHEA, KING OF ISRAEL (הוֹשֵׁעַ, hoshea'). The son of Elah and the last king of the northern kingdom (2 Kgs 15:30; 17:1–6).
Hoshea was the 19th king of Israel and, according to 2 Kgs 17:1, a contemporary of Ahaz, the 12th king of Judah (Baylis, From Creation to the Cross, 227). The exact chronology of his reign is somewhat controversial, conflicting with dates of the reign of Hezekiah and the Assyrian chronology (compare 2 Kgs 18:1, 9–10, to 2 Kgs 18:13; Isa 36:1).
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
The bible teaches us that the Israelites sinned against God and done things in secret to provoke the Lord to anger. They worshipped Idols and had Asherah Poles erected to the goddess of fertility, which is Ishtar in other passages in the bible and they worshipped as the heathen did. They worshipped graven images and the host of heaven and would not heed the commandments of the Lord.
The bibles says the Lord was very angry with them and removed them out of His sight.
18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
Judah also did not keep his commandments and the Lord, the bible says, in verse 20 rejected all the seed of Israel!
How many of you know, God does not like Idols! Or anything in your life that you put before Him!

God wants every part of you! Our secret place should be a place of intimacy with God. The bible says in Matthew 6:6 “6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
The reward of what you do in secret will be shown in the open wether it be a relationship with God or the world.

What you desire with your heart, what you go after with all your heart, will be what is shown in your actions openly for all to see. What you put first in your life will be revealed to those that are around you.
I want people to see Jesus in me! My desire is to put him first in my life! I don’t want anything to come between me and my God!
Our goal as Christians should be for us to decrease that he may increase!
The more you allow the things of this world to enter into your life the louder the world becomes in you life! Right now we live in a time where the world is louder than the children of God. The world wants Christianity to be silenced! The louder the world becomes in your life the more of the world will be added to you! We read in this text in verse that they were warned by the prophets of the lord and still did not yield to His commandments. Lets look at verse 24:
24 And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
There were men from 5 nations brought in to Samaria and in verse 30-31 we find the gods they worshiped:
30 And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
And there were seven actions of the five gods or idols created from these men that were allowed in Samaria.

Succoth-Benoth- “Tents” or “Booth of the daughters” It’s unknown exactly what deity this was, but could have been ungodly sexual acts such as in our modern world addiction to porn, the lust of the eyes. Jesus taught us that if we look on a woman with lust, then we have commited adultery already in our heart, the secret place.
Matthew 5:28 “28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

2. Nergal- The God of War
This represents pride, division, or an attitude that I know more than God and then fight for the wrong reasons such as self gain, self righteousness. These type people are never pleased. They thrive on division and stir up strife all around themselves. They love to fight and use what ever weapon they can to come out on top over those around them. They live by “eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth”! No matter what they will tell you they are always right! Using intimidation to overcome there opponent. Matthew 5:38–39 “38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

3. Ashima- The worship of material conditions or self worship.
they are lead by any and everything thats around them establishing there own way or righteousness. Having a mind that says “I know better than God!”, “My way or the highway”!
The bible teaches in Proverbs 14:12
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.
We tend to want to establish or own righteousness our own way of doing things. In doing this the bible says they are always learning but never coming unto the knowledge of the truth. How many of you know that there is only one truth?
He is the truth!
His word is the truth!
We must apply His truth to our lives and follow Him!

3. Nibhaz - Means to bark. The worship of dogs
They worshiped material things more than God more than the Spirit of God! We read in Romans 1:25
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
What things of this world are more important to you than God! Do you worship material things more than God?

4. Tartak- The worship of heavenly bodies.
They worshipped the sun, moon and stars. This is where we get the zodiac. Some people live by what there sign says will happen to them from day to day. They have things set up to notify you through social media, email notifications, text messages of what your psychic says will happen today.
God desires for you to follow Him. When Jesus started His ministry He said unto the disciples “follow me”! We should pick up our cross and follow Him!
I don’t know about you but, I am going to follow Him not some psychic or zodiac reading!
He is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the father but by him!

6. Adrammelech and 7. Anammelech- Chid sacrifice
They caused there children to pass through the fire. This worship is identical to the worship of Molech.
Through our actions we teach our children to do as we do.
Be careful little eyes what you see.
Be careful little ears what you hear.
BE careful little tongue what you say.
Be careful little hands what you do.
Be careful little feet what you do.
There is a father up above looking done with tender love.
What we do they do! If you worship God, they will worship God! If you pray, They will pray! If you follow God, they will follow God. Can I tell you this morning that if you plant the seed in there life that it is an uncorruptible seed! A seed that god will water.
We train up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart! Proverbs 22:6.
The 7th action that they did before the Lord is Abortion.
Abortion is murder! There have been nearly 63 million abortions in America since it was legalized in 1973.
We as christians should stand against abortion. As a matter of fact, I don’t believe you can be a Christian and vote for any one who condones the killing of babies!
There are many different things in our world today that grabs our attention away from God. As a matter of fact many of the things in western culture that snatches our attention away from God are things that man as found to be very lucrative. They make mega bucks off of a twisted truth that gets the attention of God fearing people.
If we allow these things to overtake our focus of the one true God, God declares that He will put you out of His site. We should be the people that makes more noise than the world on these things, turning the attention of the people back to God!
Paul in Acts 19:23–41.
How many of you know that God wants you to stand in unity against the things of this world!
If you are lacking in this area, if this message has convicted you and you have seen in your life some of the things that I said under the anointing of the Holy Spirit here this morning I have good news for you!
How many of you remember the woman at the well? Its found in John chapter 4, lets turn there.
John 4: 4-29.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
Can I tell you that Jesus has scheduled a divine appointment with you this morning! He must needs go through Samaria! He must come by Jubilee just for you this morning!
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
He is the living water! Come drink of this water and you shall never thirst again!
Jesus said to the woman, “call thy husband”. I want you to notice something here:
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

She had 5 husbands and there were 5 nations the king Hoshea brought in to Samaria that had 7 actions of false worship of other Gods. No wonder he said in verse 22 “ye worship ye know not what”.
Jesus knew what he was doing! We live in a world where people are confused about who or what to worship. But I have come by this morning to tell you that true worship will be restored in the people of God! We will be a people that is steadfast and unmoveable in the truth of who he is! The eyes of the fathers shall be turned back to the children and the eyes of the children shall be turned back to the fathers.
CON: Whats in your life that is taking place of God? Jesus is here to restore you to the truth! won’t you come!
