This Week’s Theme: Steadfastness in Suffering
Word for the Week is Suffering: It is the experience of pain or distress, both physical and emotional. Scripture is thoroughly realistic about the place of suffering in the world and in the lives of believers. To become a Christian is not to escape from suffering, but to be able to bear suffering with dignity and hope.
Memory verse: Romans 8:38–39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Essence of the Text: Job reacted to the loss of his wealth and children with worship.
Sermon Proposition: Christians should respond to loss with worship.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to evaluate how they respond to loss and respond according to God’s Word.
Sermon Text: Job 1:20-22
20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
21 And he said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.
Job BLAMELESS (MORAL INNOCENT, HAVING INTEGRITY) YOUR CONVICTION
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.

4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
6 In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.
JOB’S PRACTICE
4 And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.

13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house;
14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them,
15 when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

4 And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt.

12 And in that day the Lord God of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth.
