#1…

A Humble View of Self

John 1:20 ESV
20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
Christ = anointed king who will deliver His people.
I am not your king. I am not your master. I am not your special wisdom for every answer.
I cannot be your savior.

A Humble View of Self

ACTIONS
Recognize your true limits
Always try to crucify your own desires when helping others
#2.

A Superior View of Jesus

John 1:29–30 ESV
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’
Jesus’ role in history is infinitely superior to mine. He is the Lamb of God.
Jesus’ position of importance is superiorly greater to mine.
Jesus’ nature (being God) is superior to all others.
ACTIONS
Recognize how important Jesus is to life!
Regularly remind yourself that Jesus is owner and master of all things!

A Superior View of Jesus

#3.

A Christ Exalting View of Influence

John 1:35–37 ESV
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.
John’s disciples were HIS. He had great influence over them.
When John had opportunity to point directly at Jesus to those he had influence over, he took it!
John didn’t object to HIS disciples FOLLOWING Jesus.
ACTIONS
Recognize that you have influence over people!
Crucify your desire to use that influence for your benefit!
Point at Jesus whenever He gives you the opportunity!
