Jesus Follower

The cost of following Jesus
Luke 9 57-62 they said that they would but
V 9 23 deny himself and follow
Jesus has already sent out the 12 to heal cast out demons and spread the gospel
Jesus is now going to send out 70 others to do the same
these are ones who have picked up their cross daily
left all to follow Christ
not just ones who are half hearted, but totally commited to Jesus and His mission
we are looking at the commissioning of these men/women? to go
These were to go ahead of Jesus to prepare the way
and tell the people of the kingdom that is to come
to tell the people of the good news of the King
a kingdom is where the king is
where the king reigns
right now this is a invisible kingdom
but there is a time coming where the King will sit on His throne in Jerusalem
These people were to go and tell the good news
Read V 1-4

The Harvest is Plentiful

What is Jesus referring to here?
what did the Jews consider to be the harvest?
Joel 3:13 LSB
Send in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for their evil is great.
the harvest is the lost going to hell
the harvest is those facing Judgement
Luke 17 26-37.
the Judgement
Where Lord?
Rev 14 14- 20
Rev 19
V 15
V 17
the harvest field are the ones going into Judgement and Hell
Unless someone tells them the good news and the repent and turn to Jesus
Romans 1:16 LSB
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
V 2 The Lord of the Harvest
Revelation 19:15 LSB
And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may STRIKE DOWN THE NATIONS, and He will RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON; and HE TREADS THE WINE PRESS OF THE WRATH OF THE RAGE OF GOD, the Almighty.
Jesus
Jesus is telling us to pray that the Jude of all the earth will send laborers to the people to warn them of coming judgement

Pray

V 2 earnestly
when the harvest is ripe the farmer would send out his workers
there was only a short time to gather the harvest
before bad weather would come and ruin the crop
and as that time grew short the workers would earnestly beg the owner to hire more
so the crop would not be lost
when Jesus taught his disciples to pray
Matthew 6:9–11 (LSB)
“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our daily bread.
do we pray for God’s will to be done before we start on our lists?
in this instant God’s will is for more laborers
that’s because we are being overwhelmed with the amount
but are we overwhelmed?
does our compassion for the lost compel us
to be out there doing what we can to reach the lost and running out of time
these 70 that Jesus sent out were they trained in evangelism?
were they old saints in the church
in fact Jesus in V 3 calls them lambs
as lambs they know the basics relying on God to convict
as lambs they are defenceless so they have to trust in the Holy Spirit to do anything
we are the same way .. when we evangelize all we are doing is planting seeds, or watering seeds
we allow God to convict to save
Jesus also taught them they are going in amongst wolves
don’t try to fight a wolf unless you have superior fire power
and a lamb does not have
V 4 this is so urgent that you dont even greet people on the way
a long formal greeting
CONCLUSION
the harvest is white there are millions of people who need to hear the gospel
dont have in your mind that Jesus knows those who are his and they will be saved
those who are His will respond to the seed you plant
but Jesus has sent us out to tell others
people are dying and going to hell every day without the gospel
dont let that be your fault
