New Jersey legislators have found a solution for those who did not have the opportunity to express their love because it so cold in February. Many resident of the state did not feel very romantic on February 14 because they were busy digging out from a massive snowstorm. To give residents the chance to celebrate their love and to help local businesses recover economically, State Assemblyman John McKeon proposed creating a “Half Valentine’s Day” for August 14, half through the year. McKeon said the idea came from a town council in his district, which thought a summer celebration would allow residents to enjoy the spirit of Valentine’s Day without the harsh conditions of winter and promote economic activity. McKeon added, “It’s not…my crowning achievement in the legislature, but it’s hopefully something that will be simple and will be embraced by local chambers of commerce to try and help out local businesses.” —Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell.
