Dr. O’leary
As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter), and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen.
“Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”
Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father, preparing their nets, and he called them.
Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Jesus begins his ministry doing things that were counter-cultural. It was normal for a disciple to approach a rabbi, but Jesus calls his disciples.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.
Jesus calls us to follow him.
To follow is to obey.
Sometimes we are called to a specific task.
To follow is to obey.
