Breaking Through!

Isaiah 28:21 KJV 1900
21 For the Lord shall rise up as in mount Perazim, He shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, That he may do his work, his strange work; And bring to pass his act, his strange act.
Lets turn to:
2 Sam 5
5:1 Chapters 5–10 recount the reign of David over all Israel at Jerusalem. During these years he enjoyed great prosperity and blessing from God.
5:3 This was David’s third anointing, and resulted in the unification of the 12 tribes under one king (cf. 1 Sam. 16:13; 2 Sam. 2:4).
Now I want us to go down to:
2 Samuel 5:17 KJV 1900
17 But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
When you are anointed of God the devil takes notice! The devil desires to destroy the anointing off of your life. He wants to regain your focus on the things of the world, to draw you back to your past. The devil will tempt you through your fleshly senses. Jesus was lead into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. The anointing you have recieved will spark a spiritual warfare in and around you.
2 Samuel 5:18 KJV 1900
18 The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
The valley of Rephaim was the most direct approach to Jerusalem from Philistia. It is also called the valley of Giants in Jos 15:8. It was a valley thought to be frequented by the giants like the Anakim and the Nephilim. The Nephilim were created when the sons of God mated with the women of man. They were wicked and because of them God said that there was evil continually in the earth, Gen 6.
What is a giant? What can a giant mean in our life today?
A giant is something that you perceive is bigger than you are.
A giant intimidates and tries to make you feel small or inadequate.
A giant can be something that stops you from growing or going forward in God.
Some of you are facing some giants in your life right now.
Your giants have spread themselves in the midst of the valley of life!
There thoughts are to do evil against you continually! To stop your anointing! To destroy your faith in God!
Notice in verse 17 that they came up to seek David. The giants in your life are always seeking you out. What does the bible say? The devil is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour!
Can I tell you this morning that the devil is patient? He will wait for the right opportunity to strike.
He knows what you smile at, He knows what you react to,
He watches your eyes, your body language, your actions and reactions to find just the right moment!
2 Samuel 5:19 KJV 1900
19 And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
Notice! David inquired of the Lord!
The bible teaches us in Psalm 46:1–2 “1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;”
David said in Psalm 121:1“1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.”
He told Goliath In 1 Samuel 17:45 “45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”
God used Goliath to get David to the throne! Your giants aren’t meant to defeat you! They are meant to promote you!
Have you tried giving it to the Lord?
Inquiring means to ask!
Jesus said in John 14:14 “14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”
It is His will for you to be free from the giants in your life!
David said In Psalm 18:2–3 “2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from mine enemies.”
How many of you want to be saved from the giants in your life this morning!
There are three things we must do to defeat the giants in our lives.
The first thing we need to do as Christians is:
I. Identify the giants in our lives
What is holding you back?
What has chained you up?
What is stunting your growth?
Whats trying to stop the will of God in your life?
What has your attention away from God?
Whats taking the place of prayer, worship and your time with the King of Kings?
Whats your giants name?
The second thing we need to do is:
II. Inquire of The Lord
When you ask Him, it is important to listen to what He has to say!
Its one thing to pray and speak to God! Its another thing entirely when God speaks to you!
God desires to instruct you in the way you should go.
We learn in Proverbs 11:5 “5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: But the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.”
Let His righteousness show you the way!
Wickedness brings you down!
He wants you to depend on Him!
He wants to show himself strong within you!
The third thing we need to do as Christians is:
III. Obey Gods Instruction
When you obey God you can not be defeated! You will win the battle every time! How many of you want to live in victory? Obedience brings victory!
We learn in Romans 5:19 “19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
Your obedience causes those around you to be made righteous! People will learn from your victories!
Notice when David inquired that the Lord said I will surely deliver the philistines into your hand. I want you to notice that He didn’t say I will take care of it for you.
Most people want God to just take care of it with out them doing anything. But God used David to defeat the Philistines.
We must take the steps to victory and God will strengthen us to overcome and gain the victory!
We must make up in our mind that we shall not be defeated!
2 Samuel 5:20 KJV 1900
20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The Lord hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
Baal means “Create”
Perazim means “breaking through”
God is going to create a break through in your life! With His help we can defeat the giants!
David had his mind made up because he heard from the Lord. Can I tell you that when you hear from the Lord, you can bank on it! It will come to pass!
We must be confident that what God says he will do, He will do it!
David did not have a doubt in his mind that the Philistines were going to be delivered into his hand. God said that they were and David believed!
When you have prayed and God answers and says you will be victorious, walk in victory! Even if the battle gets tough, Walk in Victory!
How many of you believe the Lord this morning? We read in Isaiah 53:1 “1 Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?”
God said we are going to break through! Lets believe Him!
2 Samuel 5:22 KJV 1900
22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
How many of you know that the devil has the same tactics and does the same things over and over again.
You would think that the Philistines would have learned their lesson.
But no! Here they come again in the same place, in the same valley.
The devil will tempt you with your past and he is relentless in seeking to devour you and your faith!
Don’t look back when you have decided to walk in victory!
Don’t let your past determine your future!
Learn from your mistakes and move on and if the enemy comes at you, know that as God helped you defeat him in the past he will do it again!
So here comes the enemy again in the same valley. What does David do? He inquires of the Lord again! What did the Lord say this time?
2 Samuel 5:23–24 KJV 1900
23 And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
It’s important to know that you can’t defeat the enemy on yesterdays anointing! God has a fresh anointing for today!
The Lord has a new strategy for the battle ahead!
Do you know what the Lord wants you to do?
Do you know how the Lord wants you to proceed? We must depend fully on Him to walk in victory!
There are three things I want you to notice in verses 23 and 24.
I.God used a different strategy to defeat the enemy.
“ But fetch a compass behind them”
II.David had to wait until he heard the “sound of a going”
or marching in the tops of the mulberry trees. We learn in Isaiah 40:31 “31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; They shall run, and not be weary; And they shall walk, and not faint.”
III. David “Bestirred himself”!
To “Bestir” means to move quickly.
When the waiting is over and God tells you to move, we need to move! We sing that song “You gotta move! you gotta move!, when the Lord gets ready! You gotta move!” Now is not the time to have second thoughts about going into the battle! Now is the time to move!
How many of you believe that God is ready to strengthen you to defeat the giants in your life?
How many of you believe that now is the time, now we should move quickly!
He is the reason we live, move and have our being!
He is the reason we are strengthened!
He is the reason we are victorious!
He is the reason we stand!
CON: If you are facing giants in your life this morning then bestir yourself and move quickly to the alter where Jesus is waiting to give you the victory! Come quickly and don’t let the devil talk you out of it! You know you have been struggling, come win the battle this morning!
Victory is yours!
