Prop: We must trust God all the times.

 

I.   CONDISER DAVIDS FALSEHOOD – Verse 1-2

  • David lived as a fugitive for 10 years.
  • Saul tried to kill David many times.
  • Faith and fear are not compatible.
  • Fear causes deceit; Fear causes compromise.
  • How should we deal with fear?
  • Get in your Bible and get comfort.
  • Our reasonability is to Jesus, and not to man.
  • Our help comes from God (Psalm 34:1-6)
  • We need to trust God to silence those who accuse us.

II.  CONDISER DAVIDS REQUEST - Verse 3-9

  • The only bread available was the table of showbread.
  • This was not to be eaten ONLY by the priest and only at a certain time.
  • This was at the changing of the bread each Sabbath day.
  • The NT tells us Christ is the Bread of Life.
  • Fear causes compromise (10-15)
  • Vs. 10 David runs from Saul because of fear. Where to? Gath – Goliath’s hometown.
  • Vs. 11 The Kings servants recognize David.
  • Vs. 12 – David’s fear increases.
  • Vs. 13 David’s changes his behavior. He acts Crazy.
  • Vs. 14 – David’s lie convinced others.

III. DEAL WITH OTHERS TRUTHFULY

  • God loves truthful speech. (Proverbs 3:3-4)
  • Truthfulness is a spiritual indicator – (Proverbs 12:17)
  • Proverbs 12:22
  • The Bible commands us to tell the truth.
  • Jesus is our example - 1 Peter 2:22
  • Ephesians 4:15 - Sometimes silence is the best answer.

Conclusion

  • Words have meaning
  • Words are eternal!
  • Things we say can never be taken back.
  • Even if lies can be stopped or reversed
  • The reputation of the liar is forever damaged.
